A couple weeks ago I get into my car after hunting for hours.  I look down and there is a tick crawling on my shirt.  Jumped out of the car, took my shirt off rapidly and started shaking it off.  Got a strange look from a person across the parking lot =D.

Any morality issues with seeding Ovoids into new areas?  They are not very common in Central Ohio, specially outside of mulch.  I brought home colonized material from SE Ohio and put it in a wild area I think they will thrive in.  Hopefully it will even fruit this year as I brought a lot of it home in tact.

There is a park near a smallish river near me that has wood chipped trails along the river and a big pile of chips in the parking lot.  Argocybe by the thousands growing on the chipped trails now.  In the winter months the chip pile is literally pumping off clouds of steam you can see from quite a bit far away.  All the random fungus/mold/bacteria/ whatever shit growing in the mulch apparently warms it up a lot.  Getting off topic but in the dead of summer can have spontaneous mulch combustion.  Grocery store I worked years ago the mulch burned like three times in one dead of summer.

Thats why I don't wear very much clothes when hunting, unless its cold or rainy I will just wear gym shorts, no shirt, low rise socks and tennishoes. I can feel them instantly an just brush me off as I go. Today I brushed about 5 off while in the field and pulled one off my back that was trying to bite in.  But don't really have to worry about taking them home with me when I don't have any clothes on for them to hide in.

My hair is thick to the point where I feel they can't get to my scalp. They probably can if they really try or when I cut it again.
Also I usually feel them crawling too. Probably going to pick up some natural spray... heard good things about cedar oil maybe.

Yeah I don’t think I’ve ever had one on my head. Usual spots are back of the knee, my sides from under my arms to hips and groin, outside of my upper arm, and my ankles. And ma bawls.

they are definately picking up here. on all the bushes in the front lawn. luckily lots of astroturf in the backyard so hopefully less holes. i heard if dogs get to em it can puncture their esophagus so be careful of pups.

couple questions non related to cicadas

first question:

what will happen to this east coast ovoid 2021 forum when the season is over? are people still going to use this forum past season?

second question:

if there was to be an "east coast ovoid tour 2022" you travel state to state to catch peak seasons, what state goes first, what state goes last, places most worthy to research. i know PA is def a hot spot, parts of ohio, new jersey. i know the ohio river obvi is a big one. is their a list somewhere? I just feel like part of this dry season could have been split looking elsewhere. I mean PA been killing it and its like 4 hours away. i know we should focus on expanding the movement locally, but its desert dry.

they don't hide in clothes. they like warm body parts. wearing basketball shorts is asking for it. plus you can spray bug spray on your clothes so there's less chance of them on ya, and other bugs?? short socks?? you named everything you're specifally told not to do when going into tic territory lol

I'm just so used to them they don't bother me anymore I just brush them off as I go without second thought to it. If I do wear pants or a shirt I will wear white so I can see them easily. Just so much easier if you have body hair its natural defense again insects you feel them crawling. I hate deet it smells fuckin terrible. One time years ago I had a deer tick bite my forearm, I took a fat ass dab and the boi fell right off 10 seconds after I exhaled, guess he couldn't hang

We have a fall season too, last year it was pretty good. Its a shame this season is starting to seem brief, as things have gotten hot and dry here, late start and early end makes for a shitty season.

Is it possible that these are actually ovoids and cyans mixed together?

I just left the house for the first time today. Clothes fresh out of the drier. Almost immediately there’s another lone start tick on me. I have no idea where these are coming from. It must have been in the car waiting for me.

u

It’s pretty hot today already. The rest of the week is gonna be high 80s and 90s, and still no rain anywhere to be seen. Gonna hit up my one productive spot one last time. Unless this pattern changes even the stuff buried deep in the grass is done:

Lone star ticks are pretty big. Probably don’t have that many in western pa they have a more southern range than the other common ticks

Their range is rapidly expanding north and west.  JFC please stay east of the rockies.

Let's see if we actually get any rain out of this. I'm particularly optimistic about Monday, going from cool to warm again.

Been so bone dry here lately. Some ovoids are managing to survive off the last rains we've had, but they're small and far between. Really bummed there's not much rain in the forecast for me

Ok wtf is going on. I’m taking a shit and feel something on my leg. This time a tiny deer tick. I haven’t been in the woods today and have been outside a total of 10 minutes.

Hang in there... forecast is always shifting beyond a few days out.

I have found them hanging out in my house later in the day or the next day after being out. Last year there was a fat one just hanging out on my bath towel waiting for me to come back.

Or maybe you have a mini infestation somewhere close to your house, though they seem to have a 2 year life cycle so I don't know how many can hatch in one area at a time.
