tic's love me i swear. every time i forage i get em. Im on a antibiotic atm. scary shit when you wake up with two on ya and one is in the middle of your back and you can't get to it!! for anybody wondering what to do if a tic is in the center of your back and nobody is their to help you.. just pour cbd oils and or isopropyl down your back.. i did both of course in a panic. something about the oils (not sure which oils to be exact but mine was a bath and body cbd oil) loosens them up i haven't read further into but am curious to know more. luckily i was able to contort my arm to tweeze it off once it released. i do have a tic remover toy that works but unfortunately because it was on my back i couldn't get to it with that.

yesterday i was driving and saw one crawling on my hand i knocked it off onto my seat and tried to hold it down with my phone while driving so it wouldn't escape. i kept lifting my phone up to see if it was smooshed but hell no that bugger was still tryna crawl away onto my pants. lasted for 5minutes while driving full panic mode on the highway waiting for my exit to pull over. ya screw tics. getting tested in a few weeks.

It's actually better to take the time to find someone to pull the tick properly.  Burning them, pouring chemicals, or leaving them in for around 24 hours will cause them to push fluids out of themself and into you when dislodging.  That's how people end up with lymes disease or reacting to the lonestar ticks.  If you can pull them head and all within about 24 hours you stand a much greater chance of not contracting lymes.

I hear you.  I don't imagine my neighbor would enjoy me making the half mile trek to his door to plead for him to pluck ticks from my back.

I don’t even have a way to know if I had a tick on my back, let alone get one off.

I use a rough loofa and just hope I’ve scraped anything off.

I got the lone star off then crushed it with a lighter. I have a bad reputation now.

It’s ok, I think I got a bit of poison ivy in my ass crack so that’s keeping me occupied. All these finds are deep in the grass, so it could be the ch-word. So many critters to choose from.

Sounds like the solution to all of your problems is a good soak in some clay based mud.

Sorry bout the ivy in the crack, I hate getting bites/rashes on the butt.  We have a similar plant here in Oregon.  Poison oak and ivy are both Toxicodendron sp.

i got up on the bathroom sink turned my back to the mirror and inch in closer to see. my glasses kept falling. after i dumped the stuff on it, i carefully took it off with tweezers like it came clean off and i could see the whole body in the tweezers. but it wasn't budging before i did all that and i tried to make sure i didn't just rip it off i waited for the iso and oil to get into it maybe a minute or 2 before attempting to pull. my skin reacted but the swelling has since gone down a lot now its drying out and itchy i'm putting prescribed stuff on it as well as antibiotic pills.

which brings me to this question.. how comes they haven't made a tic vaccine or something like what dogs take so humans can avoid this mess?

i spray all natural whatever bug spray on every extremity and wear long pants high socks good boots long sleeves and a hood no matter the temperature. the worst is when you know you prob have a tic loose in your car after foraging cause you forgot to check before getting back into your car. watch out. guard your balls. wear tighty whiteys when you're out there, no freeballing, even if you prefer it normally.

They don't understand lymes very well yet, and also there's not enough money in it for them.  I'm hoping MRNA advances during covid will take years off developing HIV and HSV vaccines.

Nobody else will care about this update but the type of folks who spend time on this thread, but I've just sourced a major ally in my quest for unlimited ovoids & making this species more common than any other in my area...

My cousin just hooked me up with his buddy who works as a crew manager for one of the largest arborist/mulch companies in the area. He loves shrooms and is super stoked to collaborate with me on supplying as much box elder as he can chip, as well as sharing dropped pin spots with me on a map where he's chipped trees in good habitat for fungal growth...creeks, irrigated areas, etc. I'm going to get him bulk spawn from my mushroom grower friend so he can innocculate patches as he goes, and he'll share those spots with us as well...

This is gonna be a multi-season endeavor, but damn it's gonna be worth it! Know an arborist? Get 'em conscripted to the mycelial militia...

Fuckyeadude! Just like that.

Except imagine if that dude was also telling you where he dropped shit that was pre-inoculated with ovoids, or had exclusively box elder in creek beds...next level.

I worked as a groundie for several crews in Portland.  Part of my job was being the person running and feeding the chipper.  You have no idea how many loads of chips I tossed cyan spore solution or myc into.  God damn it felt good to be seeding the neighborhood on a daily basis.

To this day my lottery dream includes buying a vermeer BC1000XL

They already chip trees in place in Maryland. And I guarantee you that most mulch piles are already inoculated. actual mulch piles are not very friendly to ovoid mycelium. The piles get super hot on the inside, and while wood is the substrate, wood alone is rarely enough. Generally mulch only gets run through with ovoid myc if it’s a layer less than six inches thick on top of ground. The edges of mulch piles are fantastic. If you’re in a park that has a stream and a mulch pile, then at some point wood from the riparian zone has made it into that pile.

The community mulch piles in public gardens are really good at spreading the love around.

The only mulch that needs to be seeded generally is when they chip a tree that’s outside the normal habitat.
