Curious what the life span of Ovoids are? I want to say about 1 week but some areas got more bugs then others.

I agree 100%, for me the easiest way to tell them apart is by touch. I'm rarely fooled by them anymore, but I cop a lil feel on em anyway to be sure each time. Psilocybe have a much more pliant texture, agrocybe are more stiff and brittle feeling.

I would assume this depends on the weather more than anything. I could see cool temps and high humidity might stretch them out for 10-12 days or so, from pin to grandaddy fattie.

I think it greatly depends on weather. I am watching some mulch in central Ohio. I noticed a baby mushroom on 04/29 and it is still not mature yet, so that is like two weeks. Cap will probably open tomorrow. Been very cool for May.

If the temps where in the 80s 3-6 days? Still pretty new at this. In the wild the baby mushrooms hide good so hard to get a timetable on those. Not sure if mulch is slower.

Weather around here is BS! Not sure what the cold Mother's Day rain did. Have your spots popped off? Unfortunately my main spots are in NE OH and it's been hard to get up there at the proper time too. Trying to find new spots in central OH in a year like this hasn't been easy... Hope we still have a season left...

I found about a half oz dry today.
I also ran into my buddy who knows about the spot (haven't seen him since lockdown) and found out that he's been going down there every day, which explains my absolute shit haul in that spot. I'm gonna hit another spot tomorrow and see what's up.

Haven't posted any updates from my neck of the woods lately (SW PA), but theyve been poppin all over for the past week or so.. here's a few photos from the past 7-10 days. About to re-hit the spots from last week and see what's new, seemed like microclimates have been important this season. I see some spots just starting, and other spots in same area that look weeks old.

Not much rain in the forecast this week, hopefully there's enough moisture in the ground already

I think we even got a bit of frost a couple days ago where I am, so I'm not sure how that's going to affect things. Supposed to warm up by this weekend, and then rain all of next week, which seems promising.
I've been finding tons of Xeromphalina tenuipes, and some absolutely massive polypore mushrooms, but still no luck with ovoids.

Got to tell ya, your finds have been keeping me motivated Sbkn! Keep striking out but I am putting in the miles covering alot of territory, urban and natural. Two hours nearly every day for a few weeks now and still nothing.. I’m thinking that they just might not be around here, but I’m not gonna let that stop me. If there is a stray void that happened to wander this far north I’m determined to find it!

That's the attitude! I was doing something similar, hiking/hunting for hours and hours a week, traveling to areas far away, during fall searching for gyms/other shrooms and spring/early summer searching for ovoids, took me a year of doing (it's definitely much harder the further north you go) this until the shrooms decided to show themselves about a 10 min walk from where I live and from there I kept finding them. It's funny how things work.

Might be better off taking a drive to some good territory and bringing the mycelium back with you

That would definitely be the more logical thing to do! I’ve certainly thought about it and might do just that come fall time or next spring if I completely strike out this year. It’s more about the hunt for me than anything else though. The idea of finding actives in an area that Ive spent most of my life without knowing they were there is really intriguing to me. It seems that I live right on the cusp of their territory but there’s no real reason they couldn’t be here. Its funny, I had almost no trouble finding caerulipes on only my second time out looking thanks to everyone on these forums and they’re supposedly fairly rare. Ovoids on the other hand are making me really work for it!

If only I knew what an ovoid felt like lol. I just found a patch of agrocybe yesterday I got happy as a mfer they had abundant rhizos and hollow stems (ovoids are hollow right?) But when I tried peeling back the pellicle there wasn't one and absolutely no blueing
