It’s my first season out and I found ‘em today! I was hunting habitats all year long in Central VA, moved to SE PA last week, went out for the first time and.....

I want to go back and check on this cluster. How long do you think I should wait? It’ll be rainy here and relatively cool the next few days.

Those are beautiful, congrats.
Even with the rain and cooler temps my main hunting spots have stalled. It almost seems to wet with no warmth to dry out. Its a guessing game when to go back 7-10 days-ish.

They look like they are mature enough to call prime specimen. I wouldn't wait too long. As long as the cap is open I think they are ready.
Some man made mulch patches are starting to fruit back near my home in central ohio. One spot that had an awesome pin set looks weathered from the cold last night. It may have frosted over. I hope they aren't aborted, but kind of look that way. Once it warms up a little more I got a feeling this mulch chip patch is going to explode. Nearly two years of colonizing. Big area at least couple inches thick colonized. Lots of chipped maple.

Building off of this: does have one any additional data on the alkaloid content of Ovoids, including relative to Cubes? I'm especially interested in the psilocin content, since Cubes are very high, whereas it seems Ovoids aren't really.
The only actual measurements I've found for Ovoids are in this decade-old or so John Allen paper.

Once again was walking back to my car after a failed hunt and randomly stepped off the path to the right and looked down and came upon these. Definitely ovoids right? Bruising as soon as they were pinched. In Maryland, next to boxelders.

By my understanding Ovoids are on the high-end as far alkaloid content and cubes low-end.

Anyone have any luck in SW Ohio? I'm new to this so I'm not sure if I'm looking in the wrong habitats or if the conditions just haven't been there. Lots of rain lately, checking every spot near rivers with boxelder trees that I can find, but nothing yet. Maybe it's just been too cold?

You would need a very large sample size to get any understanding of potency. Some Re very strong, some are very weak. Ime the overall experience from ovoids is better than cubes. My friends agree too

I'm all for large samples. It's kind of my bread and butter.
It would be good to have some quality variance measures. Probably range and/or coefficient of variation. Estimating a maximum is going to be a lot easier than figuring out a minimum.
Older threads on Ovoids suggest a high %-age of psilocin, but this paper pushes in the other direction, that Ovoids are overwhelming powered by psilocybin. Obviously, that's with n=5 or something...

Anyone ever get woodlovers paralysis off ovoids? I'm in Wisco and thinking about trying to get a chip bed started.

I highly disagree with this. Ovoids are about twice as strong, they just don't last as long for some reason.

In over a decade of hunting them and giving them out I've never heard of it.
