I was running errands and being as the patch was along the way, I just went to check if it was fruiting or not. I'm gonna head back tomorrow and collect, I'll take some pics also just for you

Went to my honey hole from last year & the early spring floods definitely hit the reset button - nothing of the original patch remained, but downstream plenty of piles...

Aaand my first lil baby of the season! Not much compared to this time last year, but the first find always brings me so much joy. That magical alchemy of right place, right time, being with mother nature as she expresses herself in such a beautiful and powerful way...mmm. Very special for me.
These rains the last few days in the Philly area have finally put us in the pocket. I'll be out early and often rest of this week!

Lol the biggest ovoid I’ve seen was the size of my hand, the stem was 6 inches and it clocked in at 67 grams. You’re trying to tell us that mushroom weighs 1/3 of a pound. Come on dude.

I'll take a picture on the scale, and for the record its not the biggest or heaviest I have found, just had the fastest stem. The genetics here are crazy.
I have pulled clusters of voids with stems almost as long as my arm and thick as a quarter, that one in the picture was almost as the same thickness as a half dollar. Next time I'll put a lighter or something in the pic for scale
The odd thing about this find, more than the weight, is the timing usually the big ones don't start until the end of the season when it gets hot and dry. It has been cool and rainy for the past few days... God only knows what is to come. I expect much larger mushrooms to form.
This is from the end of last season, there were many like it that were less than photogenic. Growing Invitro style in a big log.
Also featured in the above pic is this monster pin that is likely to surpass all of the other mushrooms in the patch, largest pin i have ever seen, its much bigger than most of the fully grown mature fruits I find

The crinkle edges and bulbus base are the main indicators that a pin is going to become a monster tho, not size...

Do you think there's a pheno that grows super big? I don't think I've seen a crinkled cap in the wild...
Also, weren't you the one who found the big area of mulched box elders last season? Are these growing in that area?

No not that area but it is within a couple miles of there, these were growing from an area where somebody was chopping fire wood with an axe in the floodplains. I belive the wavy edge caps are exclusive to this area because I don't think anyone else has posted a pic of them.

I don't have any pics right now, but I get wavy Ovoids all the time. When I first saw them years ago I thought I had stumbled onto some P. Cyanescens.
All the ones I've found this year have been small and not old enough to get wavy, but if I find any I'll get pics.

Dawn patrol this AM...

That wavy enough, @shroomhunts?
In my area, (south east of Philadelphia) the wavy ones are the largest pheno by far. Fatter, wider caps and way thicker stalks. These were some of the biggest I've ever seen.
Nothing like last year, it seems, but we're definitely in the thick of it for the season. Get out there!
