AWWW YEEAA! Was worried the site would be down for the season but we back baby!
I got every Friday, Monday & weekend blocked off for hunts between now and the end of May...even flew back to Philly from Central America for the ovoid season. Love these mushrooms that much!
Stoke is high...now we just need some steady rain.

Does anyone know if Peziza sp. could be an indicator species? There is a mulch bed i know has ovoids but the only thing growing is a cup fungus which seems to be Peziza. Just wondering if that might mean ovoids are potentially close behind?

Dew point is 20°. Should be 50° or higher this time of year. It’s like a dehumidifier out there.

I moved down to central NC and wanted to put some good work in this year on seeing what I could find here after many successful years in the OH valley, but I don't think it rained once during the ovoid window. Its gonna rain pretty hard Saturday and I'm considering making a drive up somewhere north for the day on Sunday just to see if I can find enough ovoids for some spore prints - I lost my collection and I want to try some new cultivation with them. I've never really hunted a year so dry; is 24h after a rain soon enough to find fruits?

Haven't had any rain down here for a while yet this mulch spot is still pushing up new fruits. The pins are starting to dry out though, tomorrows rain will be perfect

I found a huge patch on a mulched path in MD/DC area. I've never seen so many in one spot. Mulch really does wonders.

Wife and I went out the 17th in central VA and observed around a thousand mature fruit bodies in a reliably early spot.
Around 20% of them were in the 10-14 day old range. About 60% were the perfect 5-9 days old range and the rest were pins.
Twas a great time following the bear trails through the floodplain.

It’s my first season in Central VA. I’ve been looking for potential spots all winter, and I thought it was still too early with how dry it’s been...I really better get out there...

Fortunately it got really dry before any significant amount of fruiting around here. Tonight’s predicted rain should put the season into overdrive.
