I agree, it’s way too steep and for miles around it’s used mostly by campers and they wreck havoc on the habitats. Lots of small creeks and streams to walk from the river back into the game lands. Plus I know some quad trails that go off into some interesting places, although I prefer walking. If nothing else today is supposed to be beautiful and possibly up to 70° before it rains tomorrow and the temp crashes back into the 30s. Maybe I’ll get lucky and not get covered by ticks. 😝

No ovoids yet. Checked one of my wooded spots pretty thoroughly last night. For kicks I went to a Woodchip spot that fruited abundantly last year and then got covered in maple chips. I took a few handfuls and they were totally taken over with mycelium that smelled of ovoids. So exciting. I will use these to start my own beds at home.

I don’t even mess with rivers. Creeks are where it’s at.

That’s good to know.  Been getting discouraged around the creeks, but not now!

Was out this morning and didn’t see any mushrooms except for Turkey Tail and Chaga. I did forage about a 1/2 pound of the Turkey Tail, so it was not a complete waste of time.

This will be my third year hunting and though I am no expert by any measure, I have been able to notice the flow of growth in my area in relation to ovoid season beginning. NO LONGER DO I NEED RO RELY ON KOODS TREE, I HAVE MY OWN!!

The mountainside has begun to get a little bit of color as the red tips of the leaves begin to break through. Based on my observations last year of the leaf growth and the beginning of the season, I would say we are 2 to 3 weeks out from it all starting here in the central susquehanna Valley in pa.

Pittsburgh has been starting about 4 to 8 days before my area begins and last year kooks was 7 to 14 days ahead of me. We started April 14th here and based on what I'm seeing, even with some sucky cold snaps, that will be the about earliest it begins this year. I'm betting on it being closer to the beginning of May sadly.

Just my 2 cents and observations as I've learned over the past few years of hunting. Maybe this year I'll actually show a photo because as we know, photo or it didn't happen.

Yeah smaller rivers are my go to and creeks are good to but very large rivers usually don't produce good. Dont even bother with lakes either

My first find was on the banks of a major river but it was like a needle in a haystack vs finding hundreds on a creek.  So I second the creek advice. Make sure to check multiple spots; I have identical looking spots that produce 0 at one and hundreds at the other, no rhyme or reason for it.

Welcome back to the mothership all!  Been checking spots in the Pittsburgh area the past week and haven't spotted any yet.. I have seen some fresh mushies at least (in low numbers) here and there: mica caps, wine caps, and dryads.  Knot weed still under waste height in most spots.
