How do you ensure everything is completely clean during this process?
Do you just pour some verm in a sterile bowl and pour a bit of water on it, then apply it on the cake using your gloves, or a sterile tool?
No need to be steril, have a shower or wash / sanitize your hands before touching the cake

Thanks for answering all of my questions, you have been a great help.
And nice, I am not that worried after doing it then.
Do I just keep this kit inside this box for the rest of its lifetime then? or do I move it back to its old location (inside the filter bag) once it starts pinning?
If I should keep it inside the new container, should I then replace the water inside every X days?

You will only need your cake, but you can reuse the container for own BRF cakes.
Just clean everything and change the water after each flush

It's been 3-4 days now, and nothing has really happened.
I wasn't really able to completely cover it in verm as it just falls off it (even when wet). I am also wondering if I have suffocated it at the top.

I would give it some more days, but sure maybe the damage was too big already. You could ask the shop for a replacement.
As for the verm, I made it dripping wet and pushed a lot of it on all sides but the bottom, you want the mycelium to be covered, so that its surface stays humid and can recover

Ive been monitoring this thread since u posted it and IMO if u want to grow some cubes hassle free as possible without buying another trashca.... i mean grow kit here's what you should do
Buy some MSS (multi spore syringes) i got mine from sporeworks and not a single obviously bacterial jar yet not a plug just my experience) PC some prepped grain jars put the jars into a SAB crack the lids flame the needle and squirt in the syringe 1cc (I don't shake and I mark the area where the syringe hits wall of the jar) NOW WAIT... somewhere around a month spawn the jars u had that didn't show contam into muda buckets or shoeboxes or something small with some substrate of your choice and you'll def have more mushrooms than you'll know what to do with.
while you're waiting on this kit wait on some more fruitful things as well
If you bought a grow kit I'm assuming you don't have these things but they are rather cheap to acquire... SAB is the price of a tote so like 5-10$ Same with the syringe so that's lets say 25$ total Some Qaurt mason jars lets call it $40
For $40-50 you can have 12 of those grow kits going basically and with a slightly higher investment into agar culturing you could infinitely grow them with your choice of variety and even begin crossing your own. I think its exciting holy fuck I just did €50,95 to USD and that's 62.33! that's outrageous for a grow kit especially one that isn't fruiting. Ask for your money back and invest in the above and get something rolling. What I explained to you is what I did AS I started my agar plates as well. I suggest you do the same if you want to continue cultivating but if your looking for a one bang and out like a thief grow kits arent the way and with a little effort a couple hours through a week pays off like with anything.

What about a pressure cooker, grain, flour, coir, maybe gypsum, isopropyl alcohol and other desinfection stuff, gloves, micropore tape, maybe SHIPs and a variety of other helpful tools? You may say those are cheap things, but they are many and some aren't as common or easily to obtain in Europe as in the US, where most of the teks here seem to come from.
For a noob there are a thousand things to organize, understand and think of, like how to harvest, dry, store, further cultivate (agar, puck, print) which require to organize even more stuff. Hell even converting between imperial and metric units can be quite a task. Starting with growing shrooms is overwhelming and being able to skip a big step at least for the first time has absolutely a place.
I'm not saying anyone should buy more than one box, but the one that I bought was quite a help to get into the hobby and absolutely worth it for me as a noob.

Thanks for the advice guys.
I did actually buy a dehydrator, and if/when I start the full process, I'd most likely use the Uncle Ben Tek (or something similar, because I live in Europe)
I do have one success story to show though because I have 3 kits and 1 of them worked:

Ended up with 155g fresh (11g dry) McKennaii

For anyone following the thread, I contacted the store and they refunded both kits as they were most likely dead on arrival - great website and service.
Now on to buy some spore syringes.
