I'm soon going to birth bfr cakes and spawn in shoebox with coir. A few queries please.
After 100% colonisation in the jars, do i need to wait 1 more week to birth them or is this unnecessary if using as spawn? After i birth the cakes, just wash under tap to remove top verm layer and then grate? thanks

If you’re going to a shoebox, no need for the extra week. Just rinse off that verm layer and grate. I crumble them, but it’s a personal preference. Cheers!

I believe* that people just grate the cake and add to the substrate. If your sub is at field capacity you will want to brush off the verm first. If it is a little too moist I would grate it with the verm on. Verm dries things out so include that thought into your spawning.
Once thoroughly mixed put into fruiting conditions no need to wait.

no need to wait. once it hits 100% you can grate. An extra day or two never hurts thought, just to be sure the center is done.

Yeah, rinse the cakes off under the tap and grate into your sub. plain coir at field cap is more than suffcient.
