i personally prefer cold turkey because then i'm not taking amounts until it is gone, i think it can be shocking but taking less amounts every day would be a safe approach

Tapering can help, but only if its a drug that can the withdrawls can cause you harm. Quick like a band-aid is best, but if it's alcohol, benzos, heroin and probably a handful of others you should consult a doctor or treatment plan.

I wanna quit alcohol, but i'm very psychologically addicted to it.
I'm not physically dependent yet, but the days i don't drink i get very depressed and irritable.

im in the same boat. im going to get crocked for new years but as of jan 1 2021 i plan on tapering off. i drink about half a fifth to a whole fifth of whiskey every day and im sick of if. its destroying my body because i aint so young anymore.

do you drink every day? and how much? you may be able to quit cold-turkey. i had a real scare with quiting cold-turkey a few months ago. i knew the risk of quitting alcohol abruptly but i just didnt think i was in that deep. i was wrong.

Thats a lot. I was drinking about that much, but I had to quit over about 10 days by knocking it down to 6 oz of whiskey a day for a week and then cutting down from that. It sucks. You'll sweat, curse, not sleep, and tons of other shit, but quitting drinking was the best thing I ever done.

I quit drinking for like 2 or 3 year completely. That was like 6 years ago. I might have had some champagne at holidays or something, but other than that it was all sparking water or juice.

Lately shit has been fucked up and I have been hitting the bottle this month. I'm quitting again at midnight, but I still haven't been drinking like I used to.

Quiting drinking is seriously the scariest and best thing you can ever do. It will be the most uncomfortable process, but you will do the best you can achieve after the fact.

Its' only after you quit drinking for a while you learn that you are an alcoholic and that any amount of booze isn't enough and it won't make you happy.

If you have a physical dependence, then tapering is safest. If you have a psychological dependence, than tapering is easiest. Having a really good reason that pushes you to stay sober is key.

Can definitely relate to that. I worked in the bar scene from 18-21 and was a heavy drinker (plus lots of cocaine). When I was 24 I was sober from everything except caffeine for the entire year, and have never had the same destructive habits since. It took a year of sobriety after years of binging to really respect my limits. I didn't even acknowledge that I was what most would consider an alcoholic until well after that year was over.

With alcohol, I would replace it cold turkey with lots of Cannabis. The first seven days will suck, then it will get easier. Eventually you can then quit Cannabis, too, but that's when things get really difficult. Ultimately, you need to fill that void with something. Some people become gym experts. Others become vegan. Some people get religious. Others become sex or porn addicts. Ultimately, you have to realize the struggle is constant - life-long - and there's no easy solution.

I definitely got a weird imbalance with my brain though. I was hooked on nicorette gum for like the last 2 years. Steady. As soon as I started drinking again last month, I almost quit completely. I went from 15 pieces a day down to like 3. There is some GABA receptor shit that is wrong with me, but fuck it. I'll get back on the gum for now. It causes the least harm.

Oh ------- and definitely have some Diazepam (10mg) on hand for the first three days. It will work with the withdrawal symptoms. Just don't get dependent on it.

yeah im a little worried about that, the whole receptor stuff. i was moderately hooked on meth for almost 3 years. i quit meth cold-turkey in february of 2018 and havent used it since.. but i still have small ticks and tendencies that i displayed while on the meth. its subtle and you wouldnt know it from me, but i can sense it. i dont want to use meth ever again and im happy i stopped.

I got shreddy when I quit drinking. It took a while, but I replaced gym with drinking for like the first 9 months. It might not work for everyone, but it worked for me.

I pretty much lost most my gains from that time though. I wish I got even bigger.
