Hey everyone, well judging by the title of my post I’m really in a shitty mood right now as I was working on perfecting my first agar recipe making sure I’m being careful have all my measurements right without forgetting anything, and as SOON as I finished pouring my last plate, I’ve noticed that I’ve been pouring ALLL my plates extremely light! I mean, standard plate should be 20-25ml, I think I may have been pouring them around 10-14. Is all my wrk garbage now??? Is there enough nutes in this agar or will mycelium starve?? Any help is appreciated,,
BTW for my recipe I took 200g of yellow potatoe, boiled it in a L of water, strained through cheesecloth. Replenished h20 back to 1L. Returned to pot where I mixed in 18 grams of agar and 20 grams corn syrup...bottled, pc’d at 15 psi for 30 mins
-------------------- Hope I can help & Thanks for the help!

You're fine, I like super thin agar, don't worry about the nutrients, actually you went a lot heavy on the syrup.

Not only are you fine but mycelium is a tough cookie when it comes to what it grows in and takes nutrients from but what it really needs is a clean place to grow free of contams. Goodluck.

I was just thinking about this earlier today, only my problem is I pour mine thick...on one side of my plate. For some reason the floor of my SAB dips in the middle and doesn't sit level (for now...I will fix that before I pour anything else) so all my agar is nearly over flowing on one side and thin on the other. I was wondering if having thick agar would cause any problems because I wanted the thin plates! I just made my first agar -> grain transfers and the thick agar was a pain in the dick. You'll be fine, mate. Cheers!

I can actually help you out with that one my SAB Has the same issue (I believe it’s because of the lid) but what I’ll do is pour maybe four or five at a time and then take them out and sit them on the floor under my still airbox as long as you have the lids on them they should be OK until they cool down enough to wrap them

It is definitely the lid. I'm going to either just get a stainless steel cooling rack to put inside and use as a floor, find a way to use a towel to raise the bottom up a bit and level it out or just take the lid off and use it on my desk.
BUT, in the spirit of not hijackng threads: 20g corn syrup does seem a tad high and from what I've read (no first hand experience) 30 minutes in the PC might be a little long. As always though, do what works best for you.
Thin pours only allows you to pour more plates and will not harm the myc. Pour on, mate. Cheers!

This is the recipe I follow. I think You will like it also, techniques at end for no condensation.
Also addition of extra agar to make more firm agar. I use it and its AMAZING and perfectly clear.
