Chroogomphus vinicolor subsp. californicus if they were growing with Suillus pungens.  S. pungens is very common in San Francisco and was discovered on the SFSU campus off of 19th St.

Yes, they were growing with Suillus pungens at Genentech in SSF.

Both a bit slimy, but ok.  Can be good if you are a good cook.  Many people the slimy cap off the Suillus.
