Another post about suspicious LC
    #27116132 - 12/30/20 11:53 AM (4 years, 17 days ago)

Hi everyone. This is my first post, after a couple months being reading many many threads. I'd like to know the opinion of other experienced growers about my liquid culture (honey tek), which I think it may be contaminated. Or not. I know it needs to be tested to be really sure, but what do you think, judging by its look? It had no sediments after pressure cooking it. There are photos before and after shaking the jar, taken a moment ago (though I already shaked it a day before, for the first time). It was made from a previous honey tek, which was made from multispore solution.
Thank you in advance.

Looks pretty good to me, but you can indeed never be completely sure by just looking at it.
Maybe let it colonize a bit more, and then just throw some on a petri or a pf jar.

All the best!

That looks like spores germinating, and that's no good. You need to inoculate LC with clean tissue from agar, spores are inherently dirty and liquids are the perfect breeding ground for bacteria.
Honey tek or whatever it's so very outdated and sketchy.

If you want a good LC tek, click the first link in my sig, but I would not think about LC's until you are at least familiar and proficient with agar. LC's contaminate easily if you don't know very well what you're doing.

The growth doesn't look uniform as a regular agar wedge/josex poke inoculation would be uniform.
That's why he thinks they're spores, they look tomentose, as though it were just birthed.

it doesn't look uniform because it was broken a day before and it was already inoculated from a previous honey tek. It was more uniform once. Besides, the one that I started from multispores didn't look like this at all, it was a much uniform and denser blob of mycelium. My fear about this is the presence of some contaminant particles which I may be, or may not, missing, that experienced cultivators may notice. Like for example, does it need to be 100%, totally white? the presence of any yellowish particle will point to contaminations?

Honestly the best way is to allow the lc to grow and then test it on agar.
It's extremely tough to tell at this stage.
The discoloration could be caused by the nutes you used and most LC does come out a bit yellow tbh.
Thing is all myc is white/gray up until it sporulates. Most molds don't sporulate within a liquid so its like trying to find a piece of specific species of grass in a giant field of grass.
