Why not just use the microwave & really set yourself up for the fail boat. In all honestly I have heard of peeps using steem & various other methods of preparing agar. I think both are frowned upon as contamination rates have & will be less than acceptable. Really even an instapot (not really a good choice either) can be had cheeply at 2nd hand stores.
Ya really kinda need a PC in this hobby. I know but so&so did this or said that... That was in their enviorment with their spores & a PC should be 1st purchase in this hobby.

Persistance... The short answere is yes you can steem sterilize anything.. I steem sterilize 300 lbs grain spawn at a wack 24 hrs. Your time needed will varry & success might be spotty.
Look up brf paste if ya really want some pucks w/o a PC

You can use a microwave to sterilize agar so you'll probably be fine

Yes it will work. Success in my opinion is obtained with consistant reliable repeatable results. Anything less is Luck not success. Good luck bro & let me know how it goes. Tomato a T/C states 45 min is sufficent & 2 hrs to be overkill.. IDK my first purchase in this hobby was a 23qt Presto a 12 yrs ago.. with new seals it is still running strong. Best purchase I have ever made other than condoms. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26308790#26308790

If steam sterilizing your conatmination rate will be much higher than if you used a pc, but as I understand it you should apply a fractional sterilization technique.
I tried it with grains and it all at seemed to work, but all jars eventually contaminated.
What I did was steamed them, let them sit 12 hours than did it again, let them sit 12 hours than did it again, etc etc . Maybe if I would have done it one or two more times.
Grain jars are harder to sterilize even I. A pC so maybe you'll have better luck with agar.with that said I agree with everyone else that you need a pc for this hobby. A PC or an autoclave, but PC is generally more accessible and affordable.
Even a cheap $40 dollar or less one will work. If you've been struggling with trying to sterilize with out a pc you'll be on easy street with a pc.

No one uses fractional sterilization. Farms do however use atmospheric steaming with great success

Not trying to be an asshole or anything but I am personally of the opinion that if you can't afford a 120 dollar pc this is the wrong hobby for you. I met a guy that steamed everything and sold my sister mold one time, she's allergic, it was bad.

Yeah 2hrs is way overkill. I steam agar prepours at least 2x per month and I go 45-60min depending on the pot and lid combo. My PCs get full and I still need agar so it's a quick fix. I can't recall ever having an issue with it.
