ID request bay area
    #27115029 - 12/29/20 09:41 PM (3 years, 1 month ago)

Went for my first hunt today, in the Bay Area, on the peninsula. I have been doing some research so I stuck to looking at woodchips in landscaped areas. I was surprised to find quite a few mushrooms though I don't think any are actives. Would be interested to hear your thoughts on what these are. Note none of the ones I thought looked like they could be Cyans or Alleni bruised blue no matter how much I squashed them.

This little guy was all by himself:

This was quite a large patch and got me excited, but it wouldn't bruise blue:

This little patch was pretty old. They were all pretty much like this. It was actually undercover so they were actually quite dry:

I thought this was one was nice:

Tried hard to make this one bruise:

This one actually went a bit blue when I broke a bit off:

I agree, 5, 6 and 7 look like pictures of a single p. alleni that got damaged by the frost and recent rains.  I absolutely think it's an alleni.  Although it should be bruising more, it marks a lot of the characters.  Still hard to tell in that destroyed state.

Thanks everyone! Really appreciate the help and knowledge sharing. The one that looks like it might be an Alleni actually came from a decent size patch. But most of the mushrooms were little more than pins and all"dead" like the one in the picture. What could have caused this? Frost? Is this patch likely to fruit again this season?
