I have a bunch of these pp5 trays. Best use for them?
    #27114969 - 12/29/20 09:08 PM (3 years, 1 month ago)

So my roommate keeps bringing theae home from his work, and I have about a dozen so far, with more to come.

So I have a few ideas of what to do with them, and any input concerning their efficacy and possible alternatives or tweaks would be greatly appreciated.

(Note: I'm about to start my first agar work from the single spore print I took from my last PE cakes and try to get a few good monocultures before I do whatever it is I end up doing with these containers)

Since they're pp5, my first idea was I should be able to conceivably make some kind of PF cake or grass seed cake mini tray with some micropore nocc'd with agar in my SAB, and do a wide and short in-vitro grow instead of a bottle (inspired by Violet and Muda) until the fruits get too tall, then take off the lids and transfer them to my SGFC or an HC.

I do have a dozen quart jars I could use to start doing grain spawn as well.

I havent worked with spawn yet either, only cakes, but after months of thorough reading I feel pretty confident in my ability to produce at least a 50% contam free jar rate first go around if need be.

I also have 2 shoebox sized totes, so I'm thinking I could use the 12 or more small pp5 trays for in vitro cakes and also run 2 shoeboxes with cvg all simultaneously, then get some ideal clone candidates from that run before getting them all to some agar and finally moving those clone isolates to my first few monos several months down the line.

Any flaws with this plan, or anything you think these containers would be better used for than making grass seed in vitro trays?

Love you guys, your suggestions and advice are always appreciated.

I use those for mini tubs when I have a little extra spawn. Or I put grain with sub and a healing port on lid, pc,and gift to friends when colonized.

So are you saying they're worthless for the hobby? Idk man, they look like they have a lot of potential to me, especially in regards to keeping down contams, since my house is not the most conducive place for sterile work at the moment.

I should also mention that budget is important too, and i'd like to buy only what I cant find around the house or repurpose.

Here's the thing, those a bit bulky for a pressure cooker, only true reason to need a pp5 container. If you wanted to do larger agar plates, still impractical overall. Outside of that, perhaps micro grows trays, but then PP5 doesn't matter.  PP5, only important for the PC.  Truly, not much use for them, other than micro grow dishes.

:whathesaid:

Those would be cool for little trays. Novelty grows maybe?
