Further bleach experiments
    #2657240 - 05/09/04 03:09 PM (19 years, 10 months ago)

After reading Hippie's Bleach Dunk Tek...
I couldn't help but wonder if mycelium would colonize substrate or casing treated with diluted bleach (Hippie himself said he wasn't sure).  So, in the spirit of science, I have a peat moss casing treated with 1:50 bleach : water mix in the incubator... soon I'll start an experiment to see if mycelium will colonize WBS treated with bleach dilute.
If this works, it would be amazing!  If not, oh well, no big deal.
I'll keep you posted.

Oh yeah, bleach dilute could potentially help correct the pH of casing mixtures, as pure bleach is extremely alkaline.

Nope. NaOCl. Base. Clorox bleach is pH 11.

Hooray!

Mycelium is beginning to colonize the bleach-treated casing layer...
Still waiting to see on WBS.

Hopefuly the dilution want increase oxidation. Like to hear what you think the potency is if you get some yummys off of that casing.

Oxidation of what? You seem to be saying this would be a bad thing?

I'll let you know on the potency if/when the time comes.

great experiment.
any pix ?
of course, bleach breaks down quite rapidly
so it's long gone from that casing by now.
but in effect you pasturized using bleach.
