Identification Help - Panaeolina ?
    #27108812 - 12/26/20 11:48 AM (3 years, 1 month ago)

I was out walking in the South East UK on Christmas Day and spotted these and hoping someone can help ID.

There were in large grassland meadow, wet day. PictureThis says they are Panaeolina but I'm trying to ascertain exactly what they are and whether a New Years celebration would be in store?

Black/Purplish spore print. Dried a grey/white coloru. Stipe didn't 'snap'

At first, I thought they were Liberty Caps but I'm less and less convinced after researching more.

Hoping someone can help put me out of my misery

ahh u might have a grass cinct.. if is black print its not a foenisecii..  if is same color as type on a letter holding next to it then its likely an active pan..

also the stem is dark for it to be a foenisecii from what i have seen that esp with JET BLACK spores say its not a foe.. ie likely active. check the base for very light blueing.

The stem is too pigmented for Panaeolus foenisecii.  It's a different Panaeolus.

Panaeolus acuminatus, due to the ornamented long stem, darker spore print and acute umbo on the cap.

Not psychoactive.

Panaeolus acuminatus is a good starting point, but Panaeolus is one of those Genus that it can be difficult to impossible to determine the exact species based on macrocharacteristics alone, even with microscopy it may not be possible to get to species level. So don't be disappointed if you can't get passed the Genus.
