Gambling doesn't especially tickle my brain but if a friend wants to go to a casino, I'm not adverse. Luck doesn't exist, but I've randomly been pretty fortunate.
A girlfriend's family was kinda into casinos and once we bought a package vacation that was a really good deal. Two people, $125 for a first-run movie, discounted dinner, room for the night and $25 cash to gamble with. I don't recall if she didn't gamble at all or what, but right when we got there I went down to the room with the machines.
It was my first or second or third pull on the slot machine, I got a royal flush with a huge payout for putting 25 cents in. So I stopped there.
The first time I went to a casino was also with a GF, this was decades ago. I think I got $20 in chips to start. On the first pull of the machine, I discarded the three cards I wanted to keep but ended up getting a flush. So stopped there.
I used to buy a lotto ticket in each state I drove through on road trips, but it was a money losing thing even if I followed through and cashed in on the winning tickets which I never did.

Yeah, strange place it is. Lot's of "keep it in the family" stories I hear from many unfortunately.
Next story:
So this is another bus stop story. In Georgia, koods, where all of my stories in this thread have taken place thus far. I too look down on LA, I just live here for now
I got off the bus and was walking the few blocks to my house down the usual path. My neighborhood was built on swamp land, so the ditches ran to the swamps. You could literally catch fish and crawfish from your front yard when it flooded, which was all the time at that location. Tadpoles especially were easy to see, nice quarter-sized ones; fat boys is what we called them.
So on this walk home, I see a kid who lives like 4 blocks west, meaning he should have been on my bus, but he was playing hooky. But he's there, and I can't figure out what he's doing until I get close. When I get close, i realize he is catching tadpoles, fat boys, with his hands and then taking them to the road. And then he smashes them onto the pavement.
Seeing this greatly upset me to the point of shaking mad, like, how could you hurt these tadpoles we catch together and then let go to become frogs which we then also catch and let go? So I asked him emphatically, "how could you!?"
To which he responded, "They're just tadpoles, it doesn't matter if you kill them!"
I am unsure how I feel about this now, but then, at that moment, I was the champion of all tadpoles. I proceeded with a flurry of uncoordinated punches and then threw him in the ditch from which he thought life was worthless. Felt good, really good to be honest. As far as I know he never fucked with my tadpoles again.
