So I did 6 more, but got my substrate too wet..and not enough FAE..I think..
Got lots odd mushrooms, are they all still edible? All smell fine, basically like the ones Iv grown before
Cheers for any advice, merry xmas!

Those are perfectly edible should be same potency and everything as others. Its happened to me with bacterial spawn before but the fruits are plenty safe to eat.

All good to eat. If ever in doubt just make tea, you just boil away all potential nasties.
Side note too, cleaning products can cause mutants. Say you cleaned the tub out with bleach or prepped your sub in something that didn't get rinsed out properly. May not be the case but worth noting. Could just as easily be genetics.

These shrooms are perfectly safe but I wanted to point out that this is a misnomer. Cooking things kills bacteria, but it doesn’t remove the toxins that the bacteria may have created while they were living there. This is the same reason you can’t leave raw chicken out on the counter for 8 hours and then cook it thoroughly (even by boiling) and expect it to be safe to eat. The cooking may have killed the bacteria but there’s plenty of bacterial waste inside the chicken that you don’t want to eat and won’t be removed by cooking

Are those mushrooms rotten, they sure don't look like it? most people have enough common sense to understand that boiling doesn't make rotten shit disappear. But that we cook steak for the same reason. Not because bacteria have made it rotten but because they're on the surface yet to cause rot and we would like them gone

Thanks all for those comprehensive answers. I shall consume with confidence.
I did clean the tubs and possibly didn't rinse enough.. I'll remember for next time.. though the amount I have dried already will keep me going for years, potency retention allowing..
And thanks to the community, along with meditation, mushrooms are changing my life experience.

But that’s my point. There’s bacteria on the surface of everything; sure you can cook them if you like. But there are plenty of people here who suggest that any time you’re concerned with mushrooms that may or may not have been growing for weeks in a bacterial environment, you can just cook them to food-safety, and that’s not really true. I even started by saying that these mushrooms in particular look perfectly safe to eat.

Hi guys, sorry to briefly hijack the thread... I’ve been reading everything I can on this awesome forum throughout the last year and hunting my own shrooms. Now I’ve started growing and have a question about my spawn but literally cant work out how to start a thread. Can someone point me in the right direction please? Probably being an idiot but I cant find the link or anything in FAQ. Cheers
