diyaudio.com has a great message board on all your speaker & amp requirements - plus many more associated topics. It's where I got inspiration for the single ended PL519 tube amp that has been sitting beside my desk for about a year now, as well as several past projects.
I haven't gotten around to building any speakers yet. Too many projects, not enough time!

Ive built one before. Its pretty fun to do.
Tips:
Buy a nice electronic soldiering iron if u want to make some solid connections. Also research heavily into the internal dimensions of your speaker box so you get the right sound from your speaker. Theres several speaker box calculators online to use.
Use MDF board and attach felt for the exterior for car audio or stain the wood for indoor/house use.

With a few exceptions diy is generally a better value for the money. Unless you're pretty familiar with crossover design I would stick to one of the many designs that can be found online from places like Parts Express, Madisound, Zaph Audio etc. One of these days if I can work up the motivation I'd really like to diy a set of these. Should be able to build them for less than 1/10 the retail cost. https://www.kyronaudio.com.au/kronos.html

Zaph's site is a tremendous place for all your questions and needs. He is also very accessible. He helped me find parts for my Bose 901's from 1980. Check it out.
