Christmas is sad
    #27106806 - 12/25/20 01:59 AM (3 years, 1 month ago)

There's always this huge buildup for it and then after the celebration is over... it's just over. Know what I mean?
I think in Orthodox Christianity they have a wind down that includes leaving the Christmas tree up until February.

I propose we do our part at The Shroomery and keep the board like this until Easter. If you oppose you have no soul and hate freedom.

It's a really sad fucked up comercial holiday, Christmas probably held meaning for people back in the day... Now its just about spending as much money as you can and filling your gut with alcohol.
The big company's really push Christmas, if it wasn't for the economic value of Christmas I think it would be long gone

Christmas is sad. As a kid I'd look forward to it all year and then as I got older it just got gimmicky and a hassle. Going through the motions can suck sometimes.

I love Christmas. I get together with my family and have a wonderful lunch then relax the rest of the day. I don't drink on Christmas nor do drugs, anymore, it always kinda ruins it. We don't waste a fortune on meaningless gifts either, we just give each other things we need, really wanted or were going to get anyway.

The corporate shills can go fuck themselves, no hallmark cards, no crackers, no carols, no decorations, no pointless crap to celebrate a religion I don't believe in.

Christmas is my favorite holiday.

Happy for no fucking reason and a smile on my face.

Decorations and christmas music and traditions.

So excited to have my first one with my daughter this morning!

An excuse to celebrate life like you fucking mean it!

Huge fucking breakfast and to hell with health for a day!

I wont be with my family this year but will have my daughter for her first christmas im fucking stoked!

But gathering with my family on the holidays, everyone around, fireplace at my aunts, good food and drinks, merry making... Its the best.

Wonderful time for me...

We make it about family more so than gifts.

Jist merry making with family.

A little sad not being home but mt daughter more than makes up for it. Cant wait for her ti open a gift like wtf is even going on and then play with a toy for 5 seconds before moving on to all her old toys or look out the window!

Fuck mother fucking yeah!

Howdy Northerner :hatsoff:

Merry fucking christmas everyone!!

Great day to be alive!

As an adult xmas is honestly just such a wasteful holiday ment to line big buisnesss pockets and finishoit the 4th quarter strong. But as a man with children i cant help but think back on my childhood an the magic feeling of xmas in general and especially xmas eve and morning. Its super stressful but i love keeping that magic alive for my children and seeing that magic in there faces is totally fucking worth it. Im saying all this from work right now i wasnt even there to witness  it firsthand this yr but the wife sent me pics and vids of the kids and i got to talk to them so its all good il be home for dinner

I skip over Christmas pretty regularly. I probably only celebrate like every 2nd or 3rd year.

Fuck working, but you can go to non-christian nations like Thailand where it is just another day. Australia, Mexico,  Costa Rica it is common to go to the beach with the family for Christmas. No trees, not so much shopping and other bullshit.

2020 sucked so this Christmas is much darker then it's ever been. I had a good time with family but God did I have to force it.  I'm very happy all my family is safe and sound and veey thankful but in a state of mourning for all the carnage of friends families being destroyed. Weighs heavily on me each of these friends I've known for almost a decade now and it's such a gutpunch even though it's not my family.

Stay safe, enjoy your loves ones

Merry Christmas, we can however try and have one night of a good good attitude even if it's fake

The holiday can definitely be hard if you are alone and don't have anyone to celebrate with. It is weird being an adult and not having any strong feelings about this time of year. Plus I moved from Illinois to North Carolina a little over a year ago. It is so bizarre  how much the cold and snow made it feel like Xmas. Without it, I cant seem to get in the spirit at all. It was 65 degrees yesterday. I have snowmen decorations. It feels very disconnected.

I hate winter to begin with because I hate the cold. I hate the entire month of December because there's so much traffic on the roads and I hate people's fake "giving" attitudes. If it wasn't Christmas time, these assholes would be their normal selfish selves. Oh so just because it's the holiday "season" , now you're going to be nice to people? After the Christmas season is over, people go back to their old selves. Today was actually a really nice day in terms of the weather. No rain or bullshit like literally every Christmas day before today.

I hate the whole corporatism around the holidays. I hate that there is Christmas shit in the stores before Holloween. I would like it better if they ONLY started selling Christmas shit the day after Thanksgiving. I wish people would leave their decorations up until the end of January or February.

I've been too broke for the last several years to get anyone a gift. My family knows they won't get gifts from me.

I dig it.  Just got back from seeing the fam, my niece has so much energy.  Also Toy Story is still a thing because I guess there was a 4th movie I haven't seen, we had fun playing with Buzz and Woody and Bo-Peep.

Seeing a kid's excitement on Christmas makes me feel so good that I forget I'm stuck in a world full of stress and bullshit. I remember the way I felt on Christmas morning, and getting to experience it from another perspective is really just as good.  Sure Christmas is commercial, but my family is awesome

I don't like that Thanksgiving and Christmas are so close to each other. They are the biggest holidays of the year, I think they should be more spread apart. Thanksgiving or Christmas should be in the summer and then the other one should be in the winter.

I remember being a kid thinking it must suck being an adult and no gifts

But now i like it even more seeing a happy kid and being the one to help create the magic for them

Thanksgiving is a harvest festival so it can't be much different, but we could we could say its always December 1. Then we could say Easter is the other biggest holiday and is always on May 1.

Easter is not really as big as Thanksgiving and Christmas because you aren't spending the entire previous week preparing for and running around like a chicken with your head cut off preparing for it. I don't know, I've never had a huge Easter. It's more for kids unless you are Catholic or something and you celebrate lent and all that kind of shit. It is usually Thanksgiving and Christmas where you have family members flying across the country to see other family members.

Anyway, this year was actually a very good Christmas for me. It was actually probably the best Christmas I've had in several years. My previous posts were just talking in general terms about the season.

I am glad you and your fellows do your best in these trying times.  Why can't you all make Christmas more jolly?  Just a joke.

I just bought  some useful shit for myself and got fucked up.  Year of Covid.  Holidays mean nothing to me at this time and there could be a virus much worse hypothetically that wipes out millions and people still want to keep inane traditions alive instead of what really matters in life.

Research where every Holiday originates from.  We have nothing but time.  And/or, just come to the realization that one enjoys those who one loves, being around them once in awhile.  Obligated days are bullshit to me anyway.  I don't like the fakeness of it.  And that includes jobs one hates and that awkwardness.  I just leave.  The dude abides, somehow it all works out for me.

I give a shout out to all the struggling parents who struggled to muster up a Christmas for their kids. I remember Christmas was magical as a kid, it would be for any kid, not all of them get to be in on it though, that's why christmas is sad

One of the things that really matter in life is family mr. Barnaby.

Holidays to me ARE celebrating what is important

When youre so busy with life its nice to get a day off from it all to enjoy what is important and make a festive out of it

But thats just me

I enjoy a dedicated day and time to remember what is important and prioritize family in ways we cant everyday because we are roo busy trying to keep this all going

Christmas ebbs and flows, when you are a kid it is awesome but also can be a let down. When you are in your 20s and a normal year it is party after party and debauchery with a visit to the folks thrown in. When you have kids it becomes a huge effort with the rewarding joy you remember reflected in your child or children and reignited inside you. When the kids are older and they are doing jello shots with their cousins instead of playing with their toys it is a social thing more than anything else, as the parent you begin to realize the kid's presence is your present, knowing how little you wanted to be involved at their age. This is where i am at now, the wife and I successfully did not buy each other anything and instead gave to a few charities. We spent all day Xmas eve and the days before preparing for the holiday, buying food, cleaning the house, finishing home improvement project and preparing food for the 5 or so hours we got to spend with the smaller than usual family group as the host. I look forward to future christmas' when I might have a grandchild or two running around with kids of the same age and again see and feel that reflection of being a child on christmas.

Sorry i am sappy, been a rough few years with far too much loss to not treasure family

Bring back medieval christmas. 2 months of feasts and parties capped off with 12 days of gift giving, then a week of quiet roll down until welcoming in the new year.

I don't like that Thanksgiving and Christmas are so close to each other. They are the biggest holidays of the year, I think they should be more spread apart. Thanksgiving or Christmas should be in the summer and then the other one should be in the winter.

They should just celebrate thanksgiving and Christmas together maybe move thankzgiving over to Christmas lol

Thanksgiving and Christmas are practically the same holiday anyway.

ironically as I get older christmas gets better.
As a kid I was too emotional, and I was always sad preemptively because I knew soon xmas would be over... I don't know why but I always worried about death and how fleeting everything good in life seems to be...

for whatever reason I mellowed out a lot since then

CHEER UP MATE!  2020 is almost done.

Wow, she could really pull off a full body suit.

And this guy is not going to have a fun new years eve!  Reading the news this morning like the old days.  And yeah, he was driving on the wrong side of the road in a snowstorm.

https://www.ksl.com/article/50074934/drunken-man-was-driving-wrong-way-on-i-15-during-snowstorm-uhp-says

Shane Daniel Coles, 52, of Ogden, was booked into the Iron County Jail for investigation of DUI, aggravated assault, reckless driving, being an alcohol-restricted driver, driving on a revoked license and having an open container in the vehicle.

In addition, Coles had three outstanding warrants at the time of his arrest, according to police affidavit.

Drink Responsibly.  Lol.  Wonder what his three "outstanding" warrants were for.  I like that word they use in law.  Guy didn't pay or show up.  Put it bluntly.
