That's actually a 100% valid reason to use it. Thats why I did it. It certainly has it's flaws, but it looks dope as hell and its fun to tinker with different agar colors/recipes.
IMO....

I'm a fan of the coloreds.

Though crystal clear isn't too shabby either I just appreciate a little color contrast.

Is that just your basic 20g agar with 16g LME recipe?

Yes with the boil and emersion blend. Might of been more like 14g lme. The boil is probably more important than the immersion blender. I’m sure a whisk would work almost as well. I just have a stick blender for making hot sauce so use it when ever I can.

Apparently the charcoal prevents some contams... not sure there’s any science in that. I was thinking of adding a teenyweeny bit of H2O2 in to the agar mix to help prevent contamination . I know many are anti h202, to help my sloppy technique. Hopefully this doesn’t cause a shrumble (Shroomery + rumble, prefer that to shight = Shroomery + fight)

Would a little bit of positivity during the holidays kill you?

I love that, I may make red and green agar with glitter just to be festive... 🤦🏻♂️ That would be perfect if anyone manages to work out how to grow aminita muscaria while trying to grow a tree in a Petri dish.

Gotcha. I was confused when I read some people use charcoal and some just use black dye. I thought the idea behind charcoal was likely as you said, but didn't think dye would have any antibiotic/antiseptic properties to it. However I also know I don't know shit so didn't count it out. haha
and , shrumble does sound better than shight. Thanks for the input!!

I don’t care if people add H2O2 to their agar. It won’t hurt a thing, it’s just an expensive way to add water to an agar recipe.

I think I read something about RogerRabbit using charcoal for old or difficult spores. This may have been debunked by now.
