Storing sterilized wbs jars for a few days in pc?
    #27104311 - 12/23/20 02:17 PM (3 years, 1 month ago)

I just sterilized a bunch of wbs jars they are sitting in the pc, I’m going to do a g2g transfer but the jar is at like %95 so I was gonna leave the receiving sterile wbs jars in the pc for 2 or 3 days until the jar is fully colonized. Is this gonna work or is not a good idea to leave those jars sitting in the pc for that long?

Sure they will be fine. But its a bad habit. That last 5% takes longer than you think sometimes.

They can sit for weeks if properly sterilized.

If they sit too long they gonna dry out.

Do they really dry out that easily? I have done this before with brf jars and it wasn’t a problem

No problem letting them sit a couple weeks, atleast you'll know if there clean or not😁
I wouldn't leave them in the pc just sat in a humid environment for too long any other place would be better like kitchen shelve or something

After about month my grain jars are no go. I prep them on dryer side anyway.

You shouldn't let them sit around, its bad practice and all but if properly made they wont go bad. Just dry.

How fast depends on your filters and initial moisture content Id guess.

But if I take them out they won’t stay as sterile as they would if I just left them untouched In the pc right? I usually don’t take jars out until I’m ready to move them immediately into the glove box

I left grain jars in the PC for a couple days once, they turned out fine as I recall, but there was a yuck smell from the PC - a sludgy grainy smell from the water sitting in there for a few days probably. I think it might have stained the bottom of the PC too. If your jars are properly sterilised, they should be fine sitting out for a couple of days.

Yeah I will just move them to the shelf I usually incubate on. Usually like 65-70 degrees there this time of year I got a smaller shoe box sitting in there that is colonizing pretty quick too :mushroom2:

I don't like leaving jars in the PC. Seems to cause excess rusting on the lids.

Set them aside and just give them a good wipe before putting in your SAB to use.
