Prob gonna see some Gonorrhea too but intend to expand my Knowledge by challenging myself. Not happy with the condensation, I normally let my no pour's sit a week or so but used them freshly cooled out of the PC. 1/2/21 Finally got some spores on plates. In The Pit's LAGM 2021 GROW LOG InThePit Species: P. Cubensis Variant: APE Battle of the APES! See an SW syringe vs Roarkell swab in a battle to the death! ( death by noob ) 30 December 2020: This seems like a cool deal. I read that the agar will cool quicker. So far there's quite a difference between the reading on the jars and the temp of the water in the pot.
Wow cooled really quick, gonna have some lumpy plates! Maybe time for a sous vide... Could have a plate that's a contender for the ugliest plate! And in other news... What, what's that you say, what the hell is that on top-0-the stack! Why it's cat litter of course! ( Hi Ted ) Yes boyz 'n girly girls I'm onnit! Can't find the post, but someone poured cement pucks, heated them in the oven and puts them on the stack to reduce that top plate's condensation. So ever the one to "improve", those are PP plates filled with cat litter and sealed with red RTV. Not real impressive so far, but I didn't heat them. I waited an hour and wrapped in stacks of five. Which fit inna dresser drawer. 1 January, 2021: Dang, stuck myself with the syringe! What a fuckin noob! LOL No blood, all I thought of was contams! Well two plates syringe and two swab. I cut a piece of swab off too. Couple drops from the syringe and spread with a loop. Happy New Year! Bonne année, bonne santé ! Jarhead3521 said: Log has begun! Might dip into LC this year, haven’t quite decided yet. Depends on time demands and constraints. Semper Fi Dude! 8 January, 2021: Well I don't see any sign of anything from the APE Hybrid syringe from 1.1.2021 So gonna spit some more drops inna couple plates and spread the drops around with a loop. I really shook the syringe up and could see stuff floating around. Two plates for the APE swab: one contam and one a light circle of growth?? Next time I use a swab going for more plates for that swab. 14 January, 2021: Well... Progress is progress, no matter how small... 20 January, 2021: From five plates with four wedges ea. Transferred two plates, 4 wedges ea. of SW APE for T2. Well I think I'm learning. I'm realizing it's a numbers game. I've started putting four wedges per plate. So last one was 20 wedges, so it's like 20 plates! But only five. And out of that I managed to go T2, two plates for 8 chances at a winner! Also I've started looking at the growth with a strong magnifying glass from the back as the growth shows better. Learning to look for straighter, better organized. 21 January, 2021: Ok, swabbed four plates, including the swab tip last one. So, second try. Nothing to see yet... 1 February, 2021: Well...I must have sneezed on these, noob rulz... 4 days Trying the second swab, rub-a-dub-dub and break tip off did nothing. So I shredded the tip for this result. Still at the starting gate in case anyone's worried about starting late. 8 February, 2021: Well not much to report growth wise, but we be havin fun! Got a new rack, an oven rack, way more real estate! 12 February, 2021: Today I transferred 12 wedges, a block of 4 tiny slices from the same spot, three times for three plates. All from T3 meh crappy looking APE. I'm determined to stop cultivating contam! 2 March, 2021: Whoo weeee! 107 wedge trans so far! Was down to one dish of Swabbed APE from Roarkell and got edge contam. So did 3 more plates for 12 wedges and back in da biz! 7 March, 2021: So...took trans, T6s, LI to 4 BRF tubs. Need to just go for it. MacMerdin's Simple Pan-Cakes Coversall version : PFK Tek: My version Jam jars for LI for PC, just water 1 part - dry verm 1 part - brf 1 part - water 1.5 part - horse poo 1 tsp - gypsum, can’t find any… Foil the tops PC for 1:50:00 and cool. No verm layer. Photo plate of 1-4 wedge locations, plate marker at 3:00 4 LI, #1-4, number wedge loc 1-4, containers 1-4 12 April, 2021: 4/12 3 Cased w/Peet & Perlite, didn't have verm. 36 days 25 April, 2021: Well got one APE getting out first and some pins starting up. Finally got the main tub to show condensation on the walls. I had to duct tape everything shut. I'll take pics when it's worth it later. So...some progress...with APE Closeup of the first early bird. They seem to prefer the edges. Mebbe the casing is too thick, .5", or they don't like Perlite (still haven't obtained Verm ). And this was quarantined for trich just to see if anything would pop up. Oh dear! look at all the trich, I think I'll dump it on the kitchen counter and spread some on toast! A.k.a said: Trich? That’s bruised myc isn’t it? fahtster said: Yeah I don’t see any trich Ok guys, well interesting. Before casing, one side was def trich. So perhaps the APE myc is prevailing, we'll see, as usual. On another note, from conversations lately about taking a grain to agar. I grabbed some Brown Rice substrate hoping for some chunks of myc because I had a hell of a time getting decent myc from the syringe and swabs. So hoping to get a master plate to revisit someday. APE is certainly slow. If I join LAGM again, I think I'll go with Pasty's killer RW! FTW! 28 April, 2021: So two questions:
2. They're all avoiding the center, was it something I said? Also, for extra credit, imma gonna clone the nice white one in the corner. And I also put some substrate to petri, so both camps covered! Quote: Oh man, yer so much fun. Mebbe if we get stuck in Madrid, Spain May 2, you can come vouch for us! Yes the casing could be lame, I used Perlite instead of Verm, and I forgot the lime AND I still don't have any gypsum. Casing:
1 part verm - Perlite instead 1 part boiling water 1/4 teaspoon Organic Hydrated Lime - forgot it 1 good pinch of gypsum - still haven't found any Pasteurize and cool overnight. .5-.75”, mist, put in FC - fruiting chamber Perlite, in FC between tubs, hydrate to field capacity Quote: Thanks tiptrippy, sounds great. I especially like checking before adding. 29 April, 2021: Holy Moly I went to scrape casing off one and it had monster side pins. The casing was prolly way too firm with the Perlite and all. So I did all of them, cake style on the Perlite in the bottom. pics to follow when they go APE! 7 MAY, 2021: Well...second flush, the APEs still seem offended by my casing layer! Maybe I could flip the cakes, maybe the APE really wants to be free! In real life, the Perlite is all white, it's just the lighting from outside making it WEIRD! But I'm hopeful this clone will be ok when I get back in 4 or 5 months. Just gonna put it inna drawer. 9 MAY, 2021: Quote: Sounds similar, here's my APEs after I scraped the casing layer off... and before That's a second flush and they're still avoiding the center. So I flipped two and we'll see...there's my casing Rx in LAGM21, probably how I screwed it up! 16 MAY, 2021: Cut trichoderma off of one, flipped them, put them on foil... Lookee thar, three little pins finally coming out of the center and maybe more on the way? 16 MAY, 2021: Edited by Inthepit (05/29/21 12:50 PM)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Species: Pan cyan (spore print) Varities: British Virgin Island ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 01.01.21 SAB work done. 8 plates streaked. 4 galindoi from a swab and 4 pan cyan bvi from a spore print. Now the waiting game. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 05.01.21 Yeah yeah yeah, some signs of germination the pan cyan BVI plates. But nothing on the galindoi yet. If they don't germ then I'll start up a different mushroom. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 08.01.21 pan cyan BVI T1s done. Found three plates from previous pores so just stuck them on there. And it looks like there is some movement on one of the galindoi plates, I've never grown this before so can't tell yet whether this is the right myc or something gross. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 10.01.21 Current state of the plates. Something has grown all over the galindoi plate and the BVI T1s are waking up nicely. Will pour some more plates, take some galindoi T1s and move the most promising looking BVI growth to it's own spot. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 13.01.21 Nothing super exciting. Took 5 T1s from the galindoi germ plate and 6 T2s from the pan cyan BVI. Hopefully the T2s will produce something worth sticking in an LC and I have no idea what I'm looking for with the galindoi so hopefully I'll get something ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 23.01.21 Noc'd 5 LME LC's with the pan cyan BVI. Two using little wedges and three using a needle biospy. The race is on. Opened up the galindoi/tamp plates to tip out some water. Not sure if I regret that move or not. Time will tell. But I've been having major liquid issues in my plates lately. Heating in the house hasn't been working so great so the temps having been swinging all over the shop. Maybe that's something to do with it. Planning to put these to grain. I've got a big of milo to try. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 28.01.21 Audible thumb twiddling. Pan cyan BVI LC's coming along nicely: And tamp/galindoi plates probably good to stick to grain soonish. Will get off my arse and do that soon. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 31.01.21 Well LCs are done! I was going to cook up some pan-cakes today but am out of micropore, I know it technically doesn't need them with the dry verm layer and all but I feel better with it. So that'll arrive tomorrow and I'll cook up the cakes. Going to follow the same approach I used earlier this year to see if I can repeat the results. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 01.02.21 Pan-cake day! Cooked up 5 pan-cakes with (I made 6 but can only fit five in my PC...: 1 part - dry verm 1 part - brf 1 part - water 1.5 part - aged horse manure 1 good pinch - gypsum They are in the PC now for ~1 hour 40. Will cool them over night and shoot some LC into them tomorrow! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 02.02.21 Five pan-cakes noc'd with one of the LCs and a few drops put on agar for kicks. One of the pots ended up being a pot in a pot which may compromise the lid seal but time will tell. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 04.02.21 Everything moving along nicely. Test plate growing cleaning and pots all look lively. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 08.02.21 Something doesn't feel quite right with the first pan-cakes I cooked up so I've made some more. Plus I have plenty of LC left over so may as well shoot in somewhere. These are: 1 part verm 1.something part manure 1 part water 1 heaped teaspoon gypsum 1 heaped teaspoon coffee (there was some left in the grinder this morning so I thought why the h-ck not!) Plus I've wanted to try these rectangle take away pots for a while so it seemed like a good excuse. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 09.02.21 Second round of pots all noc'd with LC. First lot coming along, but just not as well as I hoped, maybe the BVIs are slower than texans or the culture I used for the LC wasn't so strong. But I've got the other pots going now as well to see how they come along in comparison. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 13.02.21 Cakes coming along nicely, the first batch are almost there, then I'll give then a handful of days to consolidate. Second batch moving nicely as well. Sadly I have a fair bit on my plate in rl at the moment so the tamps are taking a big backseat right now. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 21.02.21 4 out the 5 pan-cakes are now fully col. The fifth is way behind so I may just toss it. I'll give them a couple of days to consolidate then case and put to fruit! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 26.02.21 Got my arse into gear and cased the 5 pan cyan BVI pan-cakes. Popped in the FC and fired it up. Fingers crossed. I'm tempted to streak some more BVI as this whole grow has left me with the feeling the I selected a shitty culture. Looking back at myc pics from my pan cyan texas grow has really drilled this home. The covid restrictions are panning (ahahaha) out means I think I've got enough free time to start up again. If I'm a bit more on top of things I reckon I'll squeeze it in. If I do I'll pour and streak on monday. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 02.03.21 It's happeneing. Pan-cakes starting to pin. Without thinking I misted the pots after taking the photos. Just lightly, but it kicked off my uncertainty. Fingers crossed that doesn't muck things up. Going to put some pan-cyan florida to agar today me thinks. I'll run that in a seperate log though. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 03.03.21 Looks like I got ahead of myself, yesterday was the 2nd not the 3rd! Time, what a strange beast. Well pins are popping now. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 04.03.21 Growing along nicely, they look more delicate than the texans I grew, but one or two of the pots hav nice coverage so hopefully could fill out. But they don't look like they'll be stunning. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 06.03.21 Well that's all folks! I left these pots a day extra to see if they'd get their act together, but harvested them today. This little guy refused to grow beyond this. ~29g fresh. I took some clones from the one or two fruits that actually looked half decent, for fun more than anything. I've never had much luck cloning, and have never cloned a pan before so it will be interesting to see if I get anything more than bac! Looking back over this all I think I should have gone back to spores after I saw the initial growth. It didn't look as good as my last pan grows, but I went with it. I get much better results the last time. I have a quiet feeling that there may have been some hidden contam from day one. As my second batch of pan-cakes stalled out totally! Much to learn! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 18.03.21 Just a small sneaky update. Lost two of the clone plates to bac, but amazingly one seems to have worked out. So I let it grow a wee bit and have taken some T1s today. I somehow managed to drop a hair on the original clone plate though... So I'm guessing that'll be a goner soon. I'm quietly excited about these clones. Never had one work out for me before! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 01.04.21 I'm a bit confused due to the whole site shutting down and so on. But I'm almost sure my dates are right. I put the good looking BVI clone into an LC this day. 15.04.21 On this day I poured the finished LC into 4 jars. In the jars was a simple mix of 50/50 chopped straw/manure with a pinch of gypsum. I PC'd the jars the day before for ~2 hours. 22.04.21 Here's how they looked on the 22nd: 08.05.21 They are almost ready, once they are I'll lay them out in a tray, let them recover for a couple of days then case and fruit. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 13.05.21 Laid out the 4 jars of straw/manure that the BVI clone had colonised. Pretty ghetto. And the mix was 100% too wet, even before I poured ~25 ml of LC into them. Will bare that in mind next time I try this straw/manure mix approach. Wrapped the tray loosely in some bubble wrap and poked some air holes into it. Will let it recover for a couple of days then case and fruit. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 23.05.21 Well this one got a head of me a bit, I was busy and only just got round the checking the tray today and the dam thing was pinning without its casing! So I threw on some old casing mix that I had. It was in a sealed tub so I'm hoping it's fine. The pan cyan bvi clone is in the larger tray, the two jars are some pan jambo. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 28.05.21 I was away while these guys were in the FC. But here we are, a clone from one of the above grows. Much better results. I think the pin set may have been messed up by how I neglected the tray before casing but I'm still happy with the results and super pleased with pulling off my first clone. So on this more positive note I will call my LAGM finished!! Thanks all! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Edited by coversall (05/30/21 01:16 PM)
Ok awesome! Yes well spotted on my typo, tires may be a freudian slip! This time of year is always extra intense and family drama has an insidious way of bubbling up around christmas. I'll get some sleep that my tires should turn into a tries.
The plan: agar to LI, part straight to muda-bottles, part to wbs to bulk in ez-dial 33qt tubs,
1/1/21 APE swab has been swabbed. My deli containers lids turned out to be polyethylene, not polypropylene like they were labelled on the vendor site. Luckily I had some glad round pasty-plates standing by. I still swabbed a couple of the non-ripped but warped lidded dishes, we will see. Whomp Whomp Swabbed: 2 pasty-plates dog food agar 5g df, 10g agar to 500 ml water 2 melted deli cups with dark rye flour agar, using bod's brf agar recipe. Long time lurker, recent poster. This sounds fun. I'll join if you'll have me. I'll run some APEs unless I come across something more interesting. Edited by FrostyStipe (01/01/21 12:04 AM)
Species: Cubensis Var: Penis Envy From year old vendor mss Species: Tampanensis Var: Pollock Print from Ambrose in a market give away. Quote: Thanks for starting this GypsyBastard. Hope CBK is doing alright. 2021-01-01 I put my tamp spores from print and PE from an old mss to some agar plates that I made a couple weeks ago. Did some transfers while I had the SAB set up, but they won't be part of this log. So stoked to participate this year. ******************************** 2021-01-04 Got some germination action on the Tamps. They don't start out looking too pretty, but the last time I tried them they looked the same. So I think we are good for meow. Waiting for a bit more growth to do a transfer. Nothing from the PE germ plate yet. ******************************** 2021-01-06 Got some more germination action on the Tamps and now a tiny start on the PE. Also a contam next to the best germ so far on plate 102, but I think I'll wait for a transfer to see if I can get some more isolated germination from further down the loop streak. I am just happy to see any PE germination from a syringe that has been in the door of my beer fridge for a year. ******************************** 2021-01-13 That’s it. I am getting a cheap lightbox. Sweet baby jeezuz, does trying to get a decent picture of plates piss me off. Just back from a trip out of town. About to do first transfers. I am not feeling too good about my PE (101 - 103) 101 never germinated and I hate the disorganized growth on 102 and 103. Probably mold but I took a transfer from both anyway. I have some other PE transfers from a clone that look similar on the same agar recipe, so who knows. The Tampanesis look better, though. Also started some Lion’s Mane to agar, but that is from a culture syringe from a sponsor so I won’t add it here for LAGM. ******************************** 2021-01-20 Just a quick update. The pe t1 is looking good. Will do some T2 transfers tonight if I have plates ready. So I am relieved because the PE germ plates looked a lot like mold to me. The Tamp t1 sucks. I must have effed up the agar recipe on the black plates. I have other non-lagm plates that are doing lousy on it as well. I will brew up some new stuff tonight and go back to the germ plates for new T1s as well as try to save these transfers on the new plates as T2s. Was almost out of plates any way. Based on some other posts, I am tracking everything in a spreadsheet now. Nothing fancy, but it has already been helpful for tracking good performers back to their sources without a crazy long code on the plates. ******************************** 2021-01-23 A little late on my update. I got a cheap light box that does help for better photos of agar. Made some new plates on 1/21. Gave them a day to dry out in a cupboard and did some transfers on 1/23. All celtreat this time, so should make for better pictures going forward. The PE is coming along. These are the T1s just before transfers to T2s. They got a little shaggy waiting on me to prep new plates. However, the Tamp transfers continued to suck. There is a bit of leap off if you look real close, but I am not hopeful. None the less, I did transfer these to three new T2s. But as insurance, I also did some new T1s from the original germ plates to three of the new agar plates. ******************************** 2021-01-29 Have to leave town again for a while. Hope these guys will behave until I get back in a week and get some grain prepared. PE T2s looking good. Tamps: the three that are technically T2s but they completely stalled on some bad agar. Seems to have recovered on the new plates. and I side angle or 206 trying to get the shape. The Tamp transfers have all been little puff balls at first, then settle down on the agar and spread out. I think that AKA mentioned his Tamps doing the same thing in another thread. The picture doesn't quite capture it. These are Tamps T1s because I went back to the germination plates because I didn't trust the others to recover. And finally a bonus non-LAGM set of Lion's Mane. These are from a vendor culture, so don't qualify. I have no idea what LM germ should look like, but I don't hate it. ******************************** 2021-02-09 They didn't wait on me to get back. I need to get some transfers done quick because I left these too long. Picture dump time. First up the PE T2 201 doesn't look great so I will probably not do any transfers. I think I can find some spots from 202 and 203. Both sets of the Tamps recovered. The first set is technically T2 and the second set are a T1. I am not sure how these look because Tamps are different. They look pretty fuzzy but also fairly organized so that will all get transfers. If anyone has suggestions on these, I am all ears. NON-LAGMs Lions Mane from vendor lc. I have no idea if these look okay for the germ plates from lc. And another non-LAGM from a PE pin clone that I want to get clean enough to try an LC. ******************************** 2021-02-18 Looks like these are all about ready for grain. PE T3s I think I will give 303 another transfer. Tamp T3s Several angles and light for 306. I was trying to capture the weird puff ball in the centers. I hope that is okay and not some ride along contam. ******************************** 2021-02-21 Prepped my grains like this: 6 quarts of oats 12 quarts tap water (eyeballed) 1.5 cups of coffee No cream 1 for me with cream 30 minutes full boil The coffee is because most of the jars will be for Tampanesis which I understand like coffee. Didn't figure the PE would mind. The cream for me is because I am a pussy. Used Smartattack's Phucket Bucket for oat prep around 6 hours while choring Jar them up Vent for 15 18 psi for 2 hours For the first 10 jars I popped the PC lid at 0 psi. I don't like to let the condensation on the lid of the PC drip on the jar lids. Vented the PC on the second 10 jars after 2 hours and popped the lid so I could go to bed. Inoculated 16 jars tracking which half were vented. Kept two of each (vented post pc and not) jars uninoculated, for science. Had one jar left over not sterilized, for giggles. I expect to trash that in a few days. I actually remembered to transfer a sample of each to agar before the jars for the first time. And I also did some non-LAGM transfers. Still tracking everything in a spreadsheet. ******************************** 2021-02-26 2 of 6 PE inoculated on the 22nd 2 of 10 Tamps inoculated on the 22nd Will probably shake both on Monday. ******************************** 2021-02-28 Jars inoculated 2/21 agar to grains (oats). These are pictures of jars just before the first shake. The two on the right are Tamanesis and the two on the left are PE inoculated the same day. All 6 Penis Envy jars. Each of the 6 in detail. I don’t see any problems here yet. These are the ten Tampanensis. 424 looks scary to me. I noticed after a day or two that the agar wedges were stuck to the top of the jar away from the grain, so these did get an early shake, but I couldn’t get the agar to come off of the top of the jar so I set it on its side to get the grain in contact with the myc. So maybe this is just how Tamp looks with an earlier shake or maybe it is fucked. These are the control jars. 4 on the left are PCed but not inoculated and the one on the right isn’t even PCed. A group shot right after shaking: Everything shook easily. No need to bang any jars, which is a first for me. But even the one that wasn't sterilized still shook easily so who knows. ******************************** 2021-03-01 And a couple of group shots 17 hours after shaking. Some recovery has started. ******************************** 2021-03-02 40 hours after shake. The mixed recovery has me less certain about what is good and what is crap. I guess I will wait and see. PE 417 and 419 are so far ahead of the other PE and I can see something dark and ugly on the inside of the glass of 419 (circled in red) so these two may be bad. Tamp 424 is clearly fucked. 428 did not bounce back quite as well as the others. I don't see any other clear signs contamination yet on the rest, but still learning. I do think that I over prepped the oats. After reading up a lot on clean spawn I convinced myself that I was probably not getting the oats hydrated enough before the PC cycle which led to spawn that did not shake easily. But I think that I have a lot of burst oats now. They shake easily so far, but will have to wait until they are fully colonized to find out, I guess. A fun thing I noticed is that 424 and my unsterilized grain jar are running about 2.5 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than the rest. Those two are both clearly contaminated. The other ones are all about the same temperature, but I will keep watching that. ******************************** 2021-03-08 PE about to get the final shake to see how recovery goes. I don't like 415, 416 & 419 415 has not fully colonized like the rest, maybe it will catch up, but the rizo myc looks a little spikey near the uncolonized area. Also, it is showing more moisture above the grains. Thoughts? 416 has the tell tale wet grains pressed against the glass 419 has some pretty rusty brown monster on the glass above the grains. I shook all but 415 to see how quick they recover. I will give 415 another day to see if it finishes colonizing before shaking. They were all a little hard to start shaking, but broke up and rattled around pretty easily and dry sounding after a bit. Tamps are doing things. I can't tell if these are headed towards stones or contamination. I want to use a couple of these tamp jars to do a g2g to more jars and fruit the rest in some tubs. Does anyone see a good candidate for g2g or any absolute trash? Knowing that I am not planning to go for stones on these jars, should I shake these? And here are a couple of jars that I need to toss, but I have a morbid curiosity at this point. I suspect that 424 has a faulty filter on lid and the other one is unsterilized. ******************************** 2021-03-09 Spawned the PE The three best looking jars went to a Pasty EZ dial in about 500g coir. The sketchy ones, 415, 416 & 419 went into my Ikea cookie jars because I don't have shoe boxes and these worked out pretty well as a novelty grow. All got about 3/8 inch top layer of coir. Then I cleaned those jars and a few others to prep some more oats for the Tamps to g2g. I used Eat's easy oat prep this time and they look so much better. Thanks for the lead. Over filled them a bit, not allowing for some more expansion in the PC cycle. Since these were planned for receiving g2g I am thinking about dumping a bit inside the SAB when I inoculate. Only two hardcore fuckups. 1. I went to dump the two contam jars that I found so amusing. Yes they smelled awful, but as I closed up the trash bag I could see the cloud of spores blasting into my face, in my garage, where I do my spawning. I opened all doors and had a pretty good wind tunnel going, but suspect I wrecked this nights spawning. Why didn't I at least dump these after spawning? 2. I only popped one jar lid off and dropped it on the floor when pulling jars out of the PC. Five second rule, right? JK. I dumped that jar right away. No sense borrowing trouble. ******************************** 2021-03-19 Did the g2g on the Tamps on 3/11. I didn't dump the excess oats, so they were really full and a pain to shake on 3/18. I left the rest of the Tamp jars to colonize, consolidate and maybe will let them go to stones. Plenty of time to decide. Nothing picture worthy on those yet. Got a couple of update pix of the PE. The three Ikea cookie jars are in various stages of colonization. The spawn jars for these showed some contam signs, so I am just going to watch them and see if they look like they want a casing. All three pictures are the same tub at different stages. The mono looked ready for a casing. I decided to try half 1:1 CV and half Jiffy seed starter. The only Jiffy I can find has coir, so I wanted to see it is even worth using over cv. I pasteurized both at a bit above field capacity in quart jars in the Instant Pot. The CV is the lighter half in the last picture. ******************************** 2021-03-22 Penis Envy The myc is tearing through the CV and slowly moving through the Jiffy. I don't know what to make of that. I will be recasing the CV in a bit and waiting to see how the Jiffy progresses before patching it. The Ikea cookie jars are also moving along. Tampanensis The g2g are about 50% and the stone jars are doing their thing. ******************************** 2021-03-24 Recased both sides before and after CV on the left and Jiffy on the right Just an update on the Ikea cookie jars. Beginning to knot up. Ignore the plates. Not really part of lagm. Those are some lions mane that was trying to escape the plates through the tape, so I removed the tape and put them in a humidity chamber to see what they do. ******************************** 2021-03-25 Tiny update The myc is still ripping through the Coir/Verm 1:1 so much faster than the Jiffy seed starter (contains coir). My initial thought is that means that the CV is better, but maybe the Jiffy not getting consumed fast means that it is better as a casing layer. I am going to leave the tub alone now and just wait to see how each side performs. ******************************** 2021-03-26 Finally did something with the tamps. The jars that I didn't use in the g2g look like they are starting to get some stones. I made a 4:1 coir:sand bulk, hydrating the coir per Smart's Phucket Bucket to field capacity. Then mixing sand in the bucket and adding more tap water to get a bit wetter than field capacity. Next I dumped all 6 jars into a garbage bag and then added 6 quarts of the coir sand mix and kneaded the bag until well mixed. These bags are just about the exact right size for liners in the 54L tubs with no cutting and minimal tucking. I placed one each in the bottom of two tubs and poured half of the mixed bag in each. Then I smoothed them out and used a bit more coir sand mix for a thin top layer. This should give me a fair comparison between the two tubs for a little experiment I have in mind. Not much new on the PE. Myc still decimating the coir/verm and more knots in the ICJs. ******************************** 2021-03-30 PE The war of the casings may be shifting to the Jiffy. Several pins forming on the Jiffy side (right). The one big boy on the CV side started in a void it found on that side, so it got an early start, but no other new pins on that side. So draw your own conclusions, but i am leaning towards Jiffy speeding up pinning due to less nutrition, therefore less colonization. (Shocking new info, I know!) Ikea cookie jars getting some pins, too. They are from suspect spawn jars and got no casing. Tempanesis Tubs colonizing. Hoping to get a bit more info from the PE casing comparison to decide how I will case these. If the Jiffy is the clear winner, I will probably pasteurize a sand Jiffy mix for this casing. Poor lighting on the second picture. ******************************** 2021-04-01 Tamps Took some clones from a couple of plate pins and a plate stone from the original LAGM germ plates. ******************************** 2021-04-05 PE The Jiffy is the clear winner as a casing. ******************************** 2021-04-06 PE made some swabs from the tub above. on 2021-04-03 tried a Josex Poke Looking good on the 6th. ******************************** 2021-04-07 PE the Ikea cookie jars first flush of PE ******************************** 2021-04-09 PE NOPE! The stuff floating on top turned green a couple days later. Back to agar for me. ******************************** 2021-04-19 Tamps My first Tamp pins finally taking off. PE One PE cookie jar recovered for a second flush and a few small pins in another, but I think I will end these now to give their chamber to my lions mane that is getting close. ******************************** 2021-04-22 Tamp Some tamp jars that didn't get spawned to bulk yet. and the ones that did. ******************************** 2021-04-26 Tamp I think these witch sticks are getting close to harvest. Really looking forward to trying these after getting some clones. ******************************** 2021-05-01 Tamp First flush 156g wet to 23 dry witch sticks from 6 quarts of spawn. Not great. Need to work on conditions for these. ******************************** 2021-05-28 Tamp Lost A/C for 3 to 4 days. Inside temps got to around 90f/32c so the tamps never recovered well. I figured this was the end of LAGM2021 for me. So I decide to look for stones. My first stones. Again, not many pulled from the sub. But the sub was pretty dry after the A/C issues, so I decided to soak the crap out of the other tub and let it go a bit longer to see if I get more stones from that one. After another week, it even started pinning again. So LAGM2021 continues for me for a bit longer. ******************************** 2021-06-23 Been a while since I updated. Got my first stones directly from the jar with no sub & tub. I also put the rest of the colonized oats from this quart into coir/sand with another quart that I left the stones in to see if they'll grow much more and give fruits. ******************************** 2021-08-03 Just about ready to wrap this little adventure up. The last two tubs were still putting out some fruits, but I chose to shut down fruiting for a while. My totals of Tamps from 10 myco quarts across 4 tubs was 4.53 oz dry fruits and 415 g of fresh stones. I still have 4 or 5 jars of stones that I plan to harvest as the urge strikes. 0.453 oz per quart are rookie numbers, but these were my first try with a stone producer, from mss and my final 2 myco qt tub gave 1.18 oz/qt dry fruit plus 175 g fresh stones, so I ain't even mad. Time to get back to agar and some new adventures. Edited by ReverendMyc (08/05/21 10:51 AM)
anatomality's LAGM2021
It will be my first try with agar, and I have a lot of genetics to try! I'll be doing 3 species and 2 cacti. I'll be as specific as possible in case anyone is trying to follow along, and for posterity. Let's have some fun with this! 1. Wild wavy cap print (Psilocybe cyanescens) to agar, to grain, to wood, and hopefully to a wild outdoor patch this spring. I'll use this Wild wavies link 2. Psilocybe tampanensis from spore print to grain for a long slow stone grow in a couple large jars. I'll try to fruit later but that's a long way off I'll try 6-8 months). I'll be following the link below as a guideline, but probably with oats or bridseed. Stones link 3. Cubes. I'll try out a APE revert print I have for sure, Penus Envy Uncut and maybe some others. Creeper, Huautla or daddy long legs. Depends how many agar plates I'll have left, I really want stones and a wild wavy patch, and I don't want to get carried away with the cubes. 4. Bonus cacti. L.Williamsii var. Caespitose, Trichocereus Peruvianus and L.Williamsii var.Big Bend from seeds (too varieties of peyote + peruvian torch) with this method: Cactus takeaway tek I know this doesn't belong here, I am just happy about it and I'll include it if no one minds. -------------------------------- Update! I'll probably only pick 2 cubes to grow out, to keep things less intense. I'll select them on the day of in the new year! I'll be using some Pasty plates with the holes on the sides of the mini rounds, and some small glass jars I've picked up as 'petri' dishes. I'll be trying out different agars. I'll them 50/50 just to compare. I have a premixed agar from amazon: Amazon Agar Malt -------------------------------- I cut the recipe down to 1/4 and made 250 ml of agar, and that turned out to be enough for all my pasty plates. I used micropore tape on the holes, and I'm about to toss them into the pressure cooker. -------------------------------- I put these spores to pasty plates: - Huautla x 1 - APE revert X2 - PEU X2 - Wild Wavy Cap X2 - Tamps X2 - Avery's Albino X2 ----> I swear this just looked like blank foil. So I just scraped and prayed lol. The pasty process ! My 'still air box' I used a candle to flame my scraping tool. And now we wait for germination. I saved 9 pasty plates for transfers... I can already tell I'll need a fuckload of these things. BONUS MYCELIUM some healthy blue magnolia rust I've got going. Love this strain. -------------------------------- UPDATES My cacti Have started to Germinate! Some cool Blue Magnolia Rust and Mazatapec that I was already fruiting (just wanted to show em...). The mazatapec has trich, I'm gonna try to chop it out... First time with a contam. My no pour pasty plates have a fuck load of condensation. Lesson learned here, you have to let them dry out for a while in the fridge before using them I guess. Hopefully I'll get nice germination, and I'll be able to transfer them. The condensed water is floating the spores around on the agar, so I might have shit growing everywhere... I think I scraped too many spores on as well, as a beginner. Look like my wild wavy cap print is the first to germinate. The huautla has something growing, but it's a bit hairy so maybe just contaminate . Agar is a bit harder than I thought it would be. Some jars I've got coming along, some just shaken, some not. Trying out some pot barely here, the mycelium seems to dig it! -------------------------------- Some of these look very bad. I think I'll have to try again with the wild wavy cap print. I'm thinking I'll try to make a MSS and swab a drop to try and separate the colonies properly? The 3rd picture is the tamps, and I'm hoping it's ok. it kind of white and fluffy everywhere there's spores, I hope it won't turn green. The APE seems to have small flecks of white over the spores, but I couldn't capture it. -------------------------------- Update 14/01/2021 I started by swabbing or putting the spores to plate, the ones I've crossed out unfortunately were unsalvageable. I still ahve spore so maybe I'll try again another time. Luckily I'm learning a lot. Major mistakes I made were : 1. Putting too many spores on a plate, only a small amount is needed. 2. Too much condensation. 3. Alcohol is better to spray everything in my SAB instead of peroxide, it's nicer to work when everything is dry. Quote: Z-Strain was added A friend of mine gave me 60 glass petri dishes, so soon I'll start messing around with those instead of small jars and plastic containers. So anyways I'm learning a lot. This thread gave me the kick in the pants I needed to start messing around with agar. It's pretty fun! FIRST EVER TRANSFERS Interesting to note the yellowish color of the Tamps, it seems consistent with the color of forming stones I've seen. A lot of my Myc seemed way too fluffy and aerial, The I realized the tape I had used was wrong and sealed my plates completely. I now have the correct tape -------------------------------- 22/01/2021 Just wanted to show off putting filthyknees mystery money print to agar. Don't know if this actually counts for my LAGM, but I was happy about it. -------------------------------- 28/01/2021 I put my Tamps to WBS, I just chopped up my agar and put the whole thing in (it was a T1, first plate after germination). Hopefully it works out, I may learn things the hard way again. Might suck to clean WBS off truffles as well. The APEr also went to WBS today (t1 as well). Did a T1 of Zstrain and transferred some APEr as well just in case. Highlight photo of filthyknee's American MONEY germination plate. I thought it was cool, because obviously it was going to be a lil dirty, thanks again filthy for this learning opportunity. I chose to transfer some of the germination spots quickly before some of those strange contams get too big. Whatever is on there germinated fast and hard. Edited by anatomality (01/28/21 09:59 AM)
I’m in for this!
I’ll try with White Gold and PES Amazonian — 12/25/2020 I purchased potato flakes and dextrose to try PDA vs LME (what I normally use) Tomorrow I’ll cook both formulas and pour the plates so they’ve had a chance to set up for a few days and condensation will have a chance to evaporate Looking forward to dropping the spores on 1/1/21 at 12:00AM 12/27/2020 Poured 39 PDYA plates. Recipe was 10g potato flakes 7g dextrose 10g agar 1g nutritional yeast in 500mL I haven’t mastered pouring the 3 compartment plates yet and this is the second time I’ve ran 1 short when doing 1 sleeve Y 1 sleeve regular. I couldn’t wait and just swiped the spores today. I made swabs by rubbing the sterile applicator on a corner of the print and then rubbing that all over the plate I also did a cross plate of pes a and white gold...because why not. Today’s the day. Going to send it with PESA , White gold and TOC. The plates I did early are showing good germination so we can chalk those up to practice or something and I moved some areas to a new plate for “T1” designation — 1/1/21 , 001 Swabbed PES A and TOC prints to agar My sooner plate of PESA germinated vigorously and I took 6 transfers to T1 1/4/21 , 004 TOC T1 transfers made 1/12/21 Everything I transferred looks disgusting so I’m going to see if I get a plate pin on my germ plates Edited by nogoodnamesleft (01/12/21 08:28 AM)
Well, thanks
I want to have fun with the hobby and I agree with what you said. I guess at the end of the day, everyone undertakes the risk they are comfortable with... I really wanna participate y'know. I have no empirical evidence to support this statement*
I have long operated on the assumption that what goes on here is, for the most far, known, but ignored. If they have a reason to come for you, then what you have here may become of interest to them (though shroomery has said they will fight any request for info with all their legal might and that at the date of my reading it they had never received a request for a users info from any LEO agency). Do you need a garage full of monos and marthas to get busted? No. But unless they have a reason to look your way, no one outside of this community will know what you've posted. anatomality I will get you added in a little bit. Entirely up to you if you want to proceed with it Ambrose and Buddaking, did you guy want a spot as well? Yew! I was wondering if comebackkid would come back.. Thanks Gyps!
I"ll log my adventures with APE, hopefully my swab shows by jan 1. I may also log ATL7 and Ps. Cyan but for now I'll commit to APE Also! To the homies concerned with legal security, it would seem that the federal government doesn't have the time or resources to enforce psilocybin laws. The concern should be more about local LE. Local LE might not mind either depending on where you at Edited by Vinci (12/23/20 11:02 AM)
Ive run plenty of cubes pretty successfully so I'm just gonna play around with these: Mexican Cube: Not sure what I'm gonna get off this "print" lol... Fiji: Didn't snap a pic of this print... it was nice and dark and streaked nicely... shouldn't have any issues with this one. S.A.T.: I tried to germ from this print about a month ago without success... plus I needed a 4th so I didn't waste the last swab... lol APEU: Shout out to FilthyKnees for these swabs! Just ran one of the swabs so I have a backup if I botched this round. And then to actually challenge myself, I'm gonna try to grow some of these guys! Gymnopilus Lutefolius: Probably the prettiest print ive ever worked with... I hope someday my x7x is this vibrant! Super excited for these but also super noobish with woodlovers so I did a mix of plates in the hopes I can get germ on something... here's the stack I swabbed in order: Update 31DEC2020: Got agar in the PC now... bottles are labeled weird so I want to get this down now. P1- 8g agar, 4g honey, 388g potato water P2- 8g agar, 4g honey, 388g 50% pot h2o W1- 8g agar, 4g honey, 388g 50% oak h2o W2- 8g agar, 4g honey, 388g 33% oak h2o G1- 8g agar, 4g honey, 388g 33% grain h2o G2- 8g agar, 4g honey, 388g 25% grain h2o In order from left to right as listed above. UPDATE 01JAN2021: Streaked 8 plates each of the 4 cube varieties in this order; P1,P2,G1,G2,P1,P2,G1,G2... all the same swab in the hopes that the last few plates will have a few spread out colonies to help in selection. Last minute update for 01JAN2021: almost forgot about these swabs! So im adding my Quirkmeister92 melmak swabs to this grow log and also over in the thread started for his never ending giveaway! Lol 04DEC2021: first one to show signs... posted in order that I swabbed... apparently my version of PDA isn't good for myc... lol got germ on all my GSW plates, no signs on any PDA plates. 06DEC2021: The swab dunk on the SAT threw me off, thought I had some growth but its just mold... Nothing on the gyms either... Pic dump of the rest of the plates im taking transfers from. The seventh pic is the only PDA plate to harbor life... but that Fiji was a few days ahead of the rest so that may have something to do with it...
