Noice!

I have tons I need to get to agar, but just haven’t done it yet.

I grabbed a mono off OG tat and also yeti. So I have plans to do some crosses. But just haven’t had the time.

Looking forward to seeing what you pump out man. I’ve enjoyed growing these cubes.

Sending these to shoeboxes today. There's this weird shiny/slimy element to all 4 jars. Probably bacteria although the mother plate looked nice.

These were no-prep jars and they came out a little wet. I followed the recipe 250g grain to 135g water but I'll probably dial that back a bit next time. They also got PC'd for 2 hours instead of 1.5 because I'm at high altitude and I'm paranoid my cooker doesn't get to 15 psi anyway. That said they don't look terrible and I'm hopeful I get some fruits out of them.

RustyWhyte 8 plates swabbed from a print.

1/1/21

Here is one of my RW plates. They germinated around 5 days after swiping with a swab. Gonna make some transfers this weekend.

1/8/21

My plan is to go to t3 before transfering to lc. From lc to 1/4 pint rice jars slurried to 3 qt popcorn bags. I am going to go with a 1:2 spawn to sub ratio with 1 qt of coir as a top layer.

I made my RW T1's on 1/9. Since these transfers recovered quickly and are looking nice, I will only take these to T2 before going to lc.

These are two of my rustywhyte t1 plates.

I am tempted to go to lc from here but on the otherhand I feel a little apprehensive. I was looking to see if any would go rhizo and then make one more transfer from there but they are all pretty tomentose. The plates look healthy and I do feel confident in my handy work so I will probably make a decision by tomorrow.

I have decided to inoculate lc's with these rustywhyte t1 plates. They should be ready to shoot up some rice jars in about 10-14 days.

I ended up spawning these on 3/17. It took more than 5 days for the grain to colonize. It actually took 10 as I underestimated a bit. I usually noc up 3qt bags with a 1/4 pint of slurry. Thought I would have similar results with a 1/4 pint slurry to a 6qt bag of grain but I was wrong. Anyway, RW coming along and should start pinning in the next few days or so.

Recased both sides

before and after CV on the left and Jiffy on the right

Just an update on the Ikea cookie jars.

Beginning to knot up.

Ignore the plates. Not really part of lagm. Those are some lions mane that was trying to escape the plates through the tape, so I removed the tape and put them in a humidity chamber to see what they do.

Bunch of mutants, is the other tub you have going the variety that keeps the white caps and then the caps turn black with maturity?

So its been a while since I've updated this. Things took quite a bit longer to colonize than I was expecting and then I got suuuuper busy. Anyway, I spawned x2 TOC and x2 TWC shoeboxes today. I'm also expanding some more of my T4a cultures into 5lb mycobags which I will use for monos if they colonize without issue.

Here is a pic of my freshly spawned shoeboxes:

Tiny PE update
Just recased both sides yesterday.

The myc is still ripping through the Coir/Verm 1:1 so much faster than the Jiffy seed starter (contains coir). My initial thought is that means that the CV is better, but maybe the Jiffy not getting consumed fast means that it is better as a casing layer. I am going to leave the tub alone now and just wait to see how each side performs.

Here's an agar dish, five days later. Is growth supposed to look like alien jizz slowly increasing in size? It's not confined to two-dimensional growth either and tries to escape from the flat surface :uhoh:

That sucks. I've observed the other plates more closely and found one with thin wispy growth at 9-12. I guess I'll let them sit until next week and then decide which ones to dump and whether any are worth taking transfers of.

Did it start as an lc or was it from a swab or loop?
It looks bacterial.

I used a spore print and an inoculation loop in a SAB. My agar recipe is MEA with charcoal, pressure cooked for an hour. I used a no pour technique and there was heavy condensation. Room temperatures are higher than usual due to poor insulation. I've observed the combination of water and high temperature to encourage bacterial growth before, but hoped going to agar to eliminate that contamination vector.

Keep at it LemonTekno. Agar will get you there and those Alien pre-pours do work. Almost certainly bacteria there, but give them a bit more time. Bacteria is often faster than cube myc, but the myc can still germinate and if a nice bit moves away from the bacteria, you will have something to transfer and clean up.
Did you streak with your loop? A long streak can give you a better chance at myc germination that is separated from contams.

2021-03-26

Finally did something with the tamps.

The jars that I didn't use in the g2g look like they are starting to get some stones.

I made a 4:1 coir:sand bulk, hydrating the coir per Smart's Phucket Bucket to field capacity. Then mixing sand in the bucket and adding more tap water to get a bit wetter than field capacity.
Next I dumped all 6 jars into a garbage bag and then added 6 quarts of the coir sand mix and kneaded the bag until well mixed.
These bags are just about the exact right size for liners in the 54L tubs with no cutting and minimal tucking. I placed one each in the bottom of two tubs and poured half of the mixed bag in each. Then I smoothed them out and used a bit more coir sand mix for a thin top layer.
This should give me a fair comparison between the two tubs for a little experiment I have in mind.

Not much new on the PE.

Myc still decimating the coir/verm and more knots in the ICJs.

OP updated.

Yes, I tried zigzag patterns first, then switched to a circular pattern. You can see the first part of the pattern covered with the milky growth, but not the remaining part. Considering that first part has been covered with more spores, it could be a dirty print. Lower spore concentrations should still be able to germinate, but would have less bacteria to compete with. That's my working theory so far.

A bit of a photo dump here: My PE shoeboxes are all starting to knot (as well as sidepin like crazy, as you can see) so hopefully I'll have surface pins within the week! Next time around I'll take peoples advice and use a liner lol.

My GT is pinning pretty well and looking happy for the most part. It's my first time using mono tubs and they are quite a bit different than shoeboxes for me so there's a learning curve.

APE looks good on a plate and will be ready to knock up a master jar as soon as I get some time to prep some grains.

I'll quit lying to you guys to: I'm probably not going to update my OP at least until I harvest  I've got way too much shit going on to remember to do that. Full time student, full time business owner coming up on busy season, a dozen varieties I'm juggling and an underwhelming social life I'm trying to keep alive lol

Alrighty. Black cap is done and finished. Nothing like 90 days from spore to swabbing.

I enjoyed these.

I harvested about 800g wet from 2 quarts of spawn. One quart into sterilized manure and straw bag. The other quart straight into coir in a 12qt.

One went into the fruiting room with gourmets and got cased, the other went on top like regular.

I’ll update more figures in my little journal. But here’s some photos.
