Making Supplemented Straw bags
    #27102072 - 12/22/20 06:35 AM (3 years, 1 month ago)

Hi there, I want to grow king oysters but i dont have any hardwood sawdust so I found this video.

\

It explain i can use Supplemented straw with rice bran, i have wheat bran but i hope it works.

My question is how would you make the bags, how i get the supplemented straw to the right moisture content?

Thanks!

Heres how i would do it: Chop your straw, soak it overnight then let it drip dry for 6-12 hours. Add water to your bran to bring it to the proper moisture and then mix it with the straw.

you should also experiment with pasteurized straw and kings, or pasteurized woodchips - ive had good results with the latter.

I wouldn't wait 12 hours just hang it up and when it stops dripping it will be good.

To get the bran to 60% water content you will have to use this...

The real question is how much bran to use? For how much straw?

Wheat bran will be fine to use.

Where are you at that you can not get fuel pellets?

The video i posted shows 20% bran as the best result, its just his test but i would start there.
