Gymnopilus subspectabilis or speciosissimus?
    #27101919 - 12/22/20 01:56 AM (3 years, 1 month ago)

These photos don't have a proper banana for scale but these things were HUGE.

I suspect they are subspectabilis but really not sure. Growing in leaf piles near rotting logs unidentified in SE USA. Larger ones were solo but most were in troops.

One of the clumps did have blue pins so I'm thinking they're active.

For now I've just sliced them a bit and put them in a box with a small fan overnight til I can find my other fan tomorrow.

But any help with definite ID appreciated. I'm doing a print now but so far not super brown. On the other hand, some of the specimens that were underneath others had very thick brown spore deposits on top.

Assuming they are active, I'm assuming dosage (dried) is about double to cubes? Might try a mild tea to experiment if I can get two more pos IDs (one so far).

TIA.

Textbook G. subspectabilis. Rather potent for a gymn of this clade

Dried would be roughly 10x the potency since mushrooms are 90% water, so I'd say 10-15. Personally I've had better experiences with wet gymns made into tea and then frozen as opposed to dry fruits in terms of potency

Oh interesting. Maybe I should throw them in the fridge now and make tea tomorrow to freeze?
