Had 3 of 4 tubs go bad on me... this is the first time I've experienced this without knowing why.
Trich freaks me out... This is the 4th tub and I'm noticing some off-colored blobs with super slow pinning throughout. Can you all tell me what you think of these?

Even if you get trich, you can get a decent flush. IF you notice that you get trich from all your tubs, change the culture - it's fucked

Copy that. I worked from agar and thought it was flawless. Definitely seemed like a better culture than what I've used in the past from a MS spore syringe direct to grain.
Thanks for your thoughts on this!

Thanks. I'm still learning the ropes on ideal surface conditions. I'll mist it a bit.

Do you have any pics of the agar plates?

I do indeed:
These were some of my first attempts with agar so I thought I could get away with cutting out and using the areas I thought were clean. If this was a bad practice, I'm seeing why I had issues.

I like the sound of that!
Just want to spare myself from a trich explosion. All the videos I've seen plus "Let's grow mushrooms" has me paranoid.

Agar is all about cutting away contams and using the good parts, but you must keep transferring until you get a clean plate. I would never take a wedge to grain from a plate with contams on it.
And IDK about others but even with a FH I don't take the lids right off my pitris for photos. I take my wedge and close it ASAP.

Copy that, I had a flowhood going so thought I had some leeway to take a photo. Thanks for input.

It may be worth noting that if your bad spots had started sporulating, even microscopically, these spores would be blown all over what ever 'clean' portion you were transferring. Also, trich can become parasitic, and will interweave itself with what appears to be healthy mycelium making it practically impossible to seperate AFAIK (I'm not 100% sure this happens with cubensis, though).

Interesting you say that because that has been my experience as well. While my spawn looks beautifully white, the trich must be there because it shows itself before/during pinning every time.
My tells have been: Sweating in the jars Harder to break up Thicker seeming tomentose growth Quick colonization but more sweating in bins and a smoother/thicker layer than the usual silky veins I'm used to.
I'm interested what eventually happened to this bin? I'm assuming trich out since no update?
