Green sand???
    #27100772 - 12/21/20 12:03 PM (3 years, 1 month ago)

Anybody ever hear of mixing a small amount of green sand into your substrate. It’s full of minerals. I came across it in a YouTube comment. The recommendation was 1part green sand to 100 parts substrate.

If its free, sure why not depending on your tek it wont hurt. Wont help either. Coir has proven to be superior substrate on its own.
I know its not the same but I use to use up 20% seaweed in my subs cause I get it in my back yard.
here are some quotes I saved on seaweed

Never thought of using stuff off beach
I can also get loads for free
Are you just mixing the 20% with pasteurized coir or sterilizing the lot together??
Are you adding verm?
If you got somekind of method you can share Id be really grateful
Would love to give it a go...

Sorry for the de-rail OP
Dry it out and crunch it up with your hands. Add it to substrate at a ratio of less than 20% when pasteurizing.
I never tried it with  unpasteurized coir. I cant find the quote but i remember reading seaweed does not share ANY of the same pathogen as land plants. So im not sure trich would attack it.
boners with seaweed

It’s a product you can buy at you garden center. This is the description on Amazon
GAIA GREEN Greensand is a mined iron potassium silicate mineral from algae sea shore deposits. It provides iron, potassium, and a broad spectrum of other trace elements while also helping to loosen hard soil and improve the moisture and nutrient retention capacity of the soil
