After 9 months, Congress finally reaches a $900 billion covid relief...

Congress reaches deal on $900 billion Covid-19 relief package
This should have been passed back in March/april. They will be voting on it tomorrow on Monday. Lazy fuckers.
"Oh, here's $600 now go pay rent for the last 9 months."
Will the extra $300 be retroactive from August? That's a lot of back pay.

I'm going to use my $600 on lobster tail and guillotines. It's time to eat the ruling the class.

They need to give me my money so I can pay off the rest of my credit card that has been leeching my soul for the last four years. I would have had it paid off by now if my job didn't shut down for the third time.

My (least) favorite part of this is the three-martini lunch deduction.
Republicans pushed for 100% of "business meals" to be tax-deductible, which Dems acceded to in exchange for expanded tax credits for the working poor and low-income families.
While people in favor of this deduction (including Trump) claim that it will revive the restaurant industry by encouraging businesses to eat at restaurants more, tax experts, including those at conservative think tanks, think it won't do much at all.
Estimated costs to the US are less than "a few billion" per year.

The joke is on them, I've been deducting 100% of my lunch expenses for years now. It's one of the perks of being too poor for an audit to be worthwhile.

Isn't that wild? Lobster and crab indeed was considered the bottom of the barrel and given to peasants. Lol now it's a luxury food. A similar thing happened with oxtail (among other foods). Oxtail used to be a trash cut but now the price has went up significantly because it has gained popularity and became trendy.

My dad is a cpa. Poor people don't get audited. You don't get flagged for an audit until you are making more than 80k a year, but mostly people who make 6 figures. It's not worth it for the irs to go after someone that they will only get $1000 from. I make less than 30k and I've been claiming a lot of losses every year to get a bigger return.

In my book, progress is made one funeral at a time. It's nice if they're natural, but sometime progress needs some assistance.

Poor people most definitely get audited. Matter of fact, as of I believe 2019, more people living below the poverty line got audited than people earning over six figures.
It just looks slightly different. When rich people get audited, they have accountants looking into their shit (expensive accountants). When poor people get audited, a computer finds a simple mistake on their tax return and revokes their EITC, essentially erasing their tax refund. This is basically free, since the IRS just gets to not pay out the refund, instead of costly litigation to take money from tax cheats.

By the way, the extra $300/week federal unemployment is NOT retroactive. That means everyone whose unemployment claim ends this week are screwed out of it. That's almost everyone who filed an unemployment claim in March. I think the politicians waited to vote on this so late blatantly as a slap in the face to all of the early unemployment benefits collectors.
