So weird, all my agar shows this kind of grow, maybe I need to change the agar/nutrition ratio

That's the mother plate of the middle one. It was inoculated by a drop of MSS, unfortunately it floated over to the rim

Well I've made a transfer of the middle one to grain and to a different agar pour, maybe that will give some more insight :waitingpatiently:

it's possible you get that growth when germinating spores.
isolate it a little bit and see if it gets more like cubensis mycelium.

I never eeeeverrr trust anything that's around the edges, especially like the one in your pic.

Also mold tends to grow quick and whispy.

I've had awful luck with syringes on agar, never has it worked for me. Not saying that it doesn't work, because it definitely can.
(I just have shit syringes from strangers.)

I did however try a few more times to work on
my technique and still to no avail. This is when I opted for a different method for my money spent on syringes.

I tried the BRF tek and got a few pins to clone to grow to grab spores, so on and so forth.

Don't give up, there's always something to learn. Good luck!

Lol, well I guess at least I was able to isolate it down to white mold

I hate to say it, but your plates seem contaminated by mold. There is one very specific constant when trying to differentiate true Mycelium and mold. Mycelium even when tomentose is thicker and less cloudy. Sectoring is more prevalent and apparent. One key feature of white molds is the whispy forerunners that have a radial growth and are usually extremely fast growing. In fact, you can see that type of growth in the first picture . If your plate gets mostly colonized in 3 to 5 days it is most likely a mold.

Sorry this has happened to you, but do not give up.

Thanks man, yeah it's all part of a learning journey

I have tried to swab spores of a (self made) print to agar and straight MSS to agar, but, as it seems, without luck so far. So I gonna try other things and to improve my sterile technique of course. I'm waiting for the inoculation loop to get delivered ^^

I also started to use Josex's poke to BRF-puck methode to put clean in vitro pins straight to agar afterwards, but yet no kind of any growth in sight after 5 and 12 days.

But of course if my foundation is mold the result is gonna be mold too.

I've bought a premade MSS by Mondo, but it does seem to be contaminated and also quite diluted as I got much more success inoculating BRF jars with my selfmade MSS.

Yeah I see, thanks a lot for helping me to learn

Tomentose growth was what I was hoping for, but all your stated signs are there, the radial growth, whispy forerunners and no sectoring at all. It gotta be mold

I guess I gonna focus on that one agar dish with a clone that doesn't seem to be contaminated and give my mold cultivation a break
Unfortunately it's quite impossible to make a good picture of it as is it made on transparent super diluted agar

It could very well be that too, especially with the uniform shape that it has going on, which always gets me stumped whether or not it's mold or myc.

Tomentose is a tricky one like that.

Slow and even growth is good... Maybe lol.

Fast, whispy and uneven growth is bad.. generally.
