Video game cognitive behavior changed mid 30s * 1
    #27098644 - 12/20/20 01:20 AM (3 years, 1 month ago)

All games I've had to had vertical inverted controls my whole life. Suddenly I no longer have the ability to play that way at all, and can only slightly play normally as I've never played like that before. If I try to play inverted now I just stare at the floor.

I feel as though this is a sign of damage.

Was it something immediate? Like one day you were playing fine and now you can't get your head around it? Or is it like you haven't played video games much lately and turned one on and inverted felt weird.

If it's like a day and night difference over the course of a short time, then it might be cognitive. If it's been a long time since you've played a game, could just be you need to get re-used to it though.

Just invert the control.

I cant play without inverted controls so i stopped playing. When i was young all controls were inverted. Now it is opposite. It just has to do with whether you nmn intuitively perceive that the characters forehead being pushed back from the front (non inverted) or pulled down by the back of the neck.

inverted controls make more sense with relation to how human anatomy works but i guess the idea that down looks down and up looks up is more intuitive for most people now

I often thought it was based of aircraft.

Some of the earliest "controllers" where joysticks for flight games.

You pull the nose up or push it down.

It's not inverted it's correct.:mad2:

Yeah exactly, it's how the joystick would work in an aircraft.

Infact, that's what came to my mind regarding inverted controls, I'd use it for flying games most probably, if at all.

Non inverted controls are the devil

Inverted is correct
non inverted is actually inverted and also dumb

I bought ace combat for ps4 a year ago. It had "easy controls" and "expect controls"
Easy was vegetable controls and expert was I can breathe on my own controls

I never thought of this. The first games I ever played were flight simulators, and Doom.

I made this post after getting Doom Eternal and not being able to play inverted anymore. I've come to find out I just haven't played a fps in years and I suck at the now lol.

So stoned I'm like "I suck at video games now. This must be bad"

As a huge FPS fan, I'll definitely concur with that :super:

I've not had a chance to try Eternal, how is it?

I've always played South Paw with an inverted y-axis.  Back in the day when Goldeneye on n64  was a thing I'd play with Turok style controls where you moved with the c-pad buttons and controled where you were looking with the joystick. Once you mastered it you had an edge over players using a default controls because you could basically aim and move at the same time where they would get locked in place if they hit R to pull up the crosshairs.  Since then I always naturally went to South Paw controls on newer systems but I have switched it up some over the years playing with my kids south paw was always a little funky because it ties up your button pressing thumb to have to move your character.  And I have played non-inverrted a bit when I pick up the kids controller to play and I hate it non-inverted is terrible I was able to get used to it for a bit but it doesn't stick inverted is natural.

Definitely an impulse buy at 60 bucks. Once Nintendo release a couple more good titles this will be 19.99. They had nothing coming out for Christmas. After dying 9000 times in valfaris I wanted something else not sidescroller.

If you didn't play with that control setting in golden eye could you even strafe shoot? I also played no crosshairs so most battles ended in strafe circle of death lol
