Did you find these a day or two after rain or later in the week? I'll prolly head up to mount lofty today for a look around. 10mm of rain in the last 24 hours 80mm this week :P any chance of them coming up with this little rain?

they appear to be lighter than they really are but still they are lighter than any subs ive seen. There like a yellow/light brown and when they dry out they go light brown. Need more rain really, only found one patch none were matured only the veils were breaking there where about 16 or so specimens.
these are the first of the s.a season next week a bit more should pop up . They were found 4-5 days after about 80mm theres a chance but a small one.
and BlueMeanio i pmed you.

Hey, nice pics, nice find.
Interestingly, yesterday i found quite a few in the bush a couple hours outta Melbourne. They were much lighter in color than ones I have found in the inner subs of Melb prev years. THey were very yellow. I think maybe because the area was very dry and they had reasonable exposure to light. At any rate, they definately seemed a little different to those i find in the (sub)urban areas. They had much longer stems also.
Hopefully lotsa rain soon, where i looked in the bush there was nearly no mushrooms of any sort, we only found a few here and there in the areas slightly wetter than the rest of the area.

Bluemeanies site would be a good place to start. I cant really give much tips as this was our first find but you can expect them after heavy rain anywhere in the hills. Look for woodchip beds (pine or eucalypt) and also naturual mulch in pine and eucalypt forests. Good luck mate

I've been told to check the woodchip beds in the city areas but with no luck... i've also been told they pretty much only grow in the hills. You guys think if i just catch a bus up to mt lofty and have a look around that would be my best bet?

Would be a good place to start... I've never been to SA, but here in Melbourne they grow in the hills (especially where there's a lot of dead wood around) as well as suburban woodchip beds. Take a digital cam with you, and get some photos of the local mushies, magic or not, and post them somewhere here, noting that they're from SA... you don't have to ask for an official ID if you just post the pics, and I'd like to see som SA mushies of all kinds! Don't be too dissappointed if you don't find anything magic! Just enjoy getting out there. :-)

Make sure when you ask people you refer to SA because obviously its a different situation for every state. Melbourne is the state that gets them in every woodchip bed in the city. I seriously doubt there would be any in the city coz I doubt spores would get that far but worth a try. In Adelaide they are pretty much only in the hills and probably anywhere that has a eucalypt/pine forest.

Wait for some decent rain as it is still dry up in the hills.
