Ok so i think I have a good idea how I'm going to go about my 1st grow just looking for critique/advice about my plan. Trying to go on the cheap and buy as little gear as possible. So,here goes *soak rye berries in hot (to start) water 24 hrs *drain/pat dry, load into qt mason jars(4) *prep jar lids w/polyfill filter/rtv injection ports *cover jars w/ tinfoil, PC 2 hrs @15 psi *let cool, inoculate w/2.5mg spore solution each *Leave jars to colonize in sanitized heat controlled chest freezer @ 80 degrees f, shaking jars up when approx. 30% colonized *When spawn is fully colonized, prepare 4 gallons 50/50 field dried hpoo/coir/180f h20 to field capacity in old drink cooler, let cool w/ lid sealed *set aside 2 qts substrate for casing, mix 4 qts colonized spawn with remaining 3.5 gal substrate *pour inoculated substrate in sanitized monotub, spread evenly, cover w/ casing *put lid on, tape over holes, place in freezer@ 80f until fully colonized *remove tape, place polyfill in holes *lower temp to 72f, set fan pointing away from tub on low, place LED light in chamber on 12 hr cycle *let er grow
So that's what I've got in mind any pointers/missed steps/ stupid shit I'm not forseeing? Thanks in advance

Because you are going spore to grain, I wouldn’t incubate at 80. Room temp will give mycelium an advantage over contams like bacteria.
No reason to do your first bill with poo, just use hot water on coir, no pasteurization required.
I also wouldn’t bother casing unless growing pe or pans

Cool I'll ditch the casing then and keep the temperature down a bit for incubation. (BTW does incubation mean colonizing the spawn, the substrate, both?) Is there any reason not to use pasteurized manure? My FIL has like a dozen horses so I have access to unlimited free manure, and I've read it can increase yield and potency over coir alone. Thanks for the response!

If you are able to follow a tried and true tek to a T, then by all means go for it. But in my experience, it is an unnecessary risk for someone who hasn’t grown yet

Tbh, there are way more qualified people on these forums who have already answered every question you could possibly have. My greatest advice would be to find someone with a successful grow and do everything they did. Then you will progressively develop your own tweaks and quarks along the way! Mush love and good luck brother

Just my two cents, you don't have to sanitize your tub. If your spawn is clean, you're good.
Also, I found polyfil to be a huge, inconsistent pain in the ass. I switched to simple 1/4 in holes as described in Pasty's write-up.
