Cracker dried shrooms losing potency?

My shrooms harvested 4-5 months ago have lost its potency. They go straight to the dehydrator till crushable cracker dry, then straight to a heavy-duty zip bag with 2 silica packets. I see no reason for it to be genetics as they are from an isolate that was proven to have potency. Friends said they felt nothing so I made tea to confirm myself.

Well, zip lock bags aren't air tight. This is likely your problem. Next time use large Mason jars or something air tight. Have you ever noticed how bag shrooms suck?

^ this. Always use mason jars or any other container that is completely air tight.
Make sure they're stored somewhere away from light as much as possible, though the air is definitely a bigger factor in potentcy.

Swingtop glass jars with silicon and rubber seal works perfectly. 4-5months or longer and no observed potency loss.

I thought the heavy-duty freezer-safe zip bags are fine? They were cracker dry when I tried them. The zip bags don't look inflated from air permeating inside.
Should I get a vacuum sealer instead then?

They'll get bendy over time in a zip bag, no matter how heavy duty or good they may seem.
The only way to store shrooms long term is by putting them in a air tight container like a sauce jar or mason jar. Vacuum sealed bags are also a good option, but it can crush your mushrooms if you take all the air out, so I leave them with just a tiny bit of air in the bags before sealing.

Thanks for the comments guys. I'll be getting a vacuum sealer ASAP.
What do you guys think of off-brand vacuum sealer bags? Are they heavy-duty enough to not get cut by dried shrooms?

I wouldn't try any bag that wasn't made for vacuum sealing. As you said, cuts are a very real possibility and even if you didn't cut them, I've tried vacuuming with regular plastic bags not made for vacuum sealing and the vacuum always failed within the first days. Vacuum sealing bags are cheap if you get them in bulk on the zon.

Yes, when cracker dry a vacuums sealer will pull so hard a vacuum it can turn them into dust. You stop the vacuum before that happens. The bags wont rip.
