Stupid WBS simmering question
    #27093989 - 12/17/20 11:46 AM (3 years, 1 month ago)

Heyo,
I made 4 wbs qt jars a few weeks ago to try my first hand at agar transferring, but they didn't do shit, wherein the LC I made with the same agar is super great. So dumped em out yesterday, taking a whiff, and a few of them did have that sour smell to em'. Also they felt very moist, and although not many hulls cracked when I simmered, they were super clumpy. I figure I simmered too long; haven't done grains in awhile. 24 hour soak follwed by a 45 minute simmer, even dried them on a towel OVERNIGHT just to be sure. I have soaked some for 24, and think I will just bring to a simmer, take off the heat, and let sit for x amount of time? What are are people doing for soak and simmer these days? Been successful in the past doing the same procedure I thought...please help! Thanks!

24 hours is boarder line to long aim for 12-16 soak.
no boil/simmer
done. I dry my seed until its basically dry to the touch its verry hard to "over dry" soaked WBS

Hmmmmm interesting,I can't remember if I've ever just simply soaked, I may try this then; I have enough culture to do some more experimenting I suppose. Thanks for the reply.

I like fooman’s WBS tek. Boil water, turn off heat, dump wbs in water and lid up. In an hour or so strain and rinse. I load my wbs still wet, and after PC it’s perfect.

Whilst still wet Roscoe?! That sounds like tam' city to me...Works though? I certainly hate waiting for it to dry.

The key is that the grains don't stick to your hands. Dryer side is better.
Boiling is a waste of time.

I rinse them in a strainer and give them a couple of good shakes, but still wet. They have a bit of moisture visible when coming out of the PC, but within an hour or so they look dry. I’ve not had contamination issues prepping this way. Here’s the link:
