Amitriptyline is probably the culprit. It will significantly mute the psychedelic experience. In my experience, amitriptyline has about 25 negative side effects to counter each positive side effects. Get input from her doctor. But, it is an old antidepressant and with that comes significant side effects. For me it was unbearable.

That is very interesting for me, since I'm decade-long migraine sufferer myself. I'm also on Amitriptyline again, but only a couple of weeks. I remember having been on it a few years ago, and having stopped because it didn't help (anymore). A few things: - Amitriptyline isn't usually prescribed to prevent migraines, but it helps with chronic pain. Personally, I'm suffering from headaches that sometimes become migraines, so the Amitriptyline could be seen as preventing a migraine, by helping with 'these' headaches, but only indirectly. To prevent migraines (or at least make them less painful), doctors sometimes prescribe the anti-epileptic Topamax (or Topiramat). While it does help in many cases, a lot of people also find its side-effects unbearable. But it's worth a try. I would however drop the Amitriptyline again immediately if it is ineffective (for now it really helps), because it also messes with my libido, I hate that. - I have had one or two migraines since I've started taking Amitriptyline again, and it got better at my habitual dosage, i.e. 0.3-0-5g dried, ground Golden Teachers (in capsules). But it's only been a few weeks (since I'm on Amitriptyline again), apparently it can take some time (until you feel all of its effects).
So, for your wife, I think it's worth giving the mushrooms another try, now that she's off the Amitriptyline. For me, it has changed my life quite substantially, even though it's something that makes it harder to travel now lol (I have to take into account that I will be without my preferred medicine for the duration of my travelling, which kind of sucks...)
