Slow Monotub Colonization - Day 6

First time doing a monotub. How is it looking? I spawned the grain to sub 6 days ago. Im probably just being too impatient but im hoping to get some feedback. Could it be stalling because of a bacterial contamination? I'm planning on leaving it alone for a few more weeks and hope it gets more colonized.

A little more background. I was worried about my grain having a bacterial contamination but it had no smell when I opened it so I went ahead and spawned it to my sub. I have seen a little bit of growth since then but nothing near the growth rate of other tubs I've seen. Like I said, I am probably being impatient and paranoid but its KILLING me.

Only time will tell but so far it's not looking bad. We usually level out and tamp our substrate though.

I was so nervous about contamination , I rushed and mixed the sub and grain and forgot to level it out. I checked on it this morning and it looks like it is taking more of a hold in the sub!!!

Once your grain is colonized, you're good. I've dumped my substrate and grain in a mono before and left the lid off hours before I came back and mixed. You can sneeze on it, dip your balls in it even. Once it's colonized you're safe. If it goes green, if it was going to go green before it was spawned.

Spawn to sub ratio? Tub size?
For what its worth, my tub looked like yours after 2-3 days after spawning and then it just sat there, however mine was sealed with saran wrap instead of a lid and im certain the oxygen was consumed away due to the high ratio of spawn and small tub size. What I did was open the saran wrap and replace it with a custom made "lid" made of cardboard which just imperfectly rested around the edges of the tub, thus allowing for some GE. Then I aquired the normal tub lids and the rest is history. Currently the tub is fully colonized and it took it 8-9 days to do so but as I said, got a high spawn ratio.

I see metabolites on the mycelium. How did your jars look before spawning?

My GS looked like it had some bacteria but after opening it and not having any smell I spawned it. Id say the ratio of sub to grain is 2:1.

First off, few more weeks way too long. Tub should be colonized in 8-12 days. Depending on your temps, a lot will happen in the next few days. Leave her be.shes just getting going.

Here are some photos from today. Day 9. I think I see some rhizomorphic mycelium! Its definitely slow growth but its fascinating.
