Panaeolus ID help
    #27088250 - 12/14/20 04:38 AM (3 years, 1 month ago)

Hello everyone I'm new here and also a beginner mushroom hunter. Is there anyone here that can help me ID panaeolus cintulus? Or any other active pan that might be growing in my area... I live in southern Greece.. I find many different pans but i am not able to tell the difference or cant recognise  characteristics.Any info would be helpful.

If you're specifically looking for Panaeolus cinctulus, you should check areas where
horses are kept, i.e. horse farms and race tracks. P. cinctulus will grow in the heaps
of manure and stable shavings. The other species most likely to grow in the same substrate
are various inactive species of Panaeolus, Coprinellus, Coprinopsis, Deconica, Conocybe and
possibly Agaricus.

Please bring a camera when you hunt, and take good close up shots of the mushrooms
both before and after picking.

Also, you could try to look for Psilocybe serbica and its close relatives in beech forests, or
Psilocybe semilanceata in grass pastures at high elevations.

Happy hunting, and welcome to the Shroomery. :toast:

Those look like pans, but then they don't.

No way to get any better photos?

Those mushrooms are not psychoactive. It is not Panaeolus Cinctulus.

I believe they are either Psathyrella sp, possibly Psathyrella longipes, and if not, they are inactive Panaeolus sp, possibly Panaeolus Foenisecii.

I could be wrong on the exact ID, you should wait for a trusted identifier, but they are not active I'm afraid.

I'm thinking Psathyrella too, but I don't think P. longipes occurs in Europe.

Could, as you say, also be a slightly weathered Panaeolus, hard to tell, it would really help with better pictures.
