As a personal rule for me, I will only eat fresh mushrooms if I know they've only been growing a few days and still look "fresh". As long as they don't smell gross or have obvious signs of rot like being slimy ill make tea with them. So far I havnt given myself food poisoning but use your own judgment. Smell is VERY important in this case.

Would you think drying in a dehydrator would neutralize said bacteria or could that still be a factor after fully drying at a hot temp (120F+) for like 10 or more hours?
Am asking because I dried a good few that look like the ones in the OP and was going to grind/homogenize my harvests into capsules. Don't want to taint the entire batch, and they weren't like "rotting", just a little past prime and this thread has me overthinking it probs. I think it'll be all good, but now I'm just curious.
Basically I'm asking with the same mushrooms in the first post, if you dried them instead of making a tea, would you feel comfortable consuming them dried or no? Didn't know if making tea with the "on the way out" finds is the best course of action or if drying them is comparably kosher...

I think Mental makes a good point in that there's varying levels of comfort in terms of eating wild mushrooms. In my experience, the ones pictured there look perfectly fine. If they smell foul like some bacteria is liquidating it, chuck it. Otherwise it's up to you to decide if you want to eat them or not.

Drying Mushrooms 100% Cracker Dry Kills Any Microscopic Parasites, Bugs, & Most Bacteria, However There Is Some Bacteria I Believe That Can Survive The Drying Process.
However, Making Tea With Fresh Or Dry Mushrooms Should Kill Any Unwanted Bacteria, Parasites, Bugs, Etc. Most Living Organisms Cannnot Survive Boiling Water.

They actually smell mushroomy, no foul smell and they’re not slimy at all. The texture is absolutely fine.
Down the hatch they go 😋
