Have any of you tried the Wim Hof breathing method? * 1
    #27044721 - 11/18/20 12:12 AM (3 years, 2 months ago)

Firstly I hope all of you guys are doing great and safe!
For the past ~2 weeks I've been doing the Wim Hof breathing method. Honestly, it felt, especially at first, very psychedelic to me. Even a bit dissociative like nitrous at times.

I just know it often immediately takes away some of my bad moods.

Just wondering if any of you guys have heard or attempted this; I'm highly debating making this a part of my lifestyle but still unsure.

For whoever's curious, here's a guided session, just make sure you have no health issues and you are lying down and/or in a safe spot (do not do this in water or standing).

I've started again with this and I'm in my 5th week.
I did not do the cold exposures everyday due to some cold/flu symptoms I had.

The cold has always been an issue for me so I hope I can overcome this and gain the benefits with a stronger immune system to overcome some allergies/sinus issues.

I agree with the psychedelic like feeling in the beginning but lately I feel more of a buzz in my body than my head.

Yes, I started practicing it with another client almost a year ago. I haven't done it as frequently, but this thread is a good reminder of how worth it it was for the benefits.

I started looking more into this method.
Maybe it is time I seriously research this as a way to get healthier in the body and mind.

The thing that convinced me to start doing this is that it is backed up by scientific evidence and data.

Do some research and you will find this information.

^ Well, what they do know is that those who practiced the WHM had little to no immune response when exposed to an endotoxin (ecoli it was, IIRC).

They also know Wim Hof somehow, through this method, can control his autonomous nervous system and control his body temperature in extreme cold conditions; ones which would kill others.

Other than this, not much is known. How, what, why, you know? We just know this happens.

Others have benefited tremendously through WHM breathing with things such as autoimmune disorders.

It seems the other benefits can be linked to intermittent hypoxia training.

But all in all, much is unknown.

I tried this a few years ago and it was really surprising how long the body doesn't need to take oxygen in. Very peaceful feeling and pretty useful experience if you're wanting to do lucid dreaming induction as that also requires the body to be totally relaxed.

Not a bad idea to have someone with you the first few times you do it, just to be extra safe.

well they do know that those breathing techniques change the nature of the equillibrium of O2/CO2 in your very small capillaries, which are important for triggering your body to start thinking its dying and then attempting to stop that process.

And does this have a positive or negative effect long term?

Pioneer Psychiatrist and world famous psychedelic researcher Dr. Stanislav "Stan" Grof created a similar breathing technique that he called "Holotropic Breathing" Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Isn't an immune response to an endotoxin desirable? If there's no immune response to an invader you would develop increased toxic load. Maybe I'm wrong, but I've always been under the impression immune response to things like the flu was a good thing.

No immune response and an elimination of the toxic load I think is what people forget when they just parrot things they don't understand lol

So I been getting in on this and got the app and all.  It's great, thanks again for the intro to it.

I was having a shit day and did 3 sessions of the breathing a few hours apart each.  The first 2 were ok, but the third, I really felt something different.  I felt the nitrousy thing before.  But this time my body tingled all over and got kind of weightless feeling and some visuals popped up on my eyelids.  It was intense.  And awesome. And completely fixed my day.  Kind of like mushies do for me where empathy and love and understanding pour out, I came out of it feeling kinda like that... Now I guess I just gotta stop being a little bitch and start trying the cold shower stuff.

That's awesome to hear man. I've been doing this breathing daily as well, and it sometimes gets difficult to begin, but once the first round is over everything just flows.

Also, I have been doing the cold showers as well, daily. Pretty fucking awesome too I must say. I feel a big difference in the way I handle day-to-day life.

A week into this.  I do like that point when you're thinking, "did I just take a whippit"?  Hopefully it will help with Lyme.  I saw Wim on Mikhaila Peterson podcast.  I think she hopes it will help her dad who had a paradoxical reaction to taking Benzos and is still suffering as a result.
