I'm too intelligent for my preference
    #27087094 - 12/13/20 10:28 AM (3 years, 1 month ago)

I don't mean to sound arrogant, and this is more something I want to get off my chest, just a quick thing.

I am far too intelligent, by my own standards. If I have any time spare I will think through everything, and that includes my foundations. Every one of them. I constantly think myself into horrible places where I am lost and terrified and isolated.

I wish I was not intelligent. If it was my choice I would not trade in comfort and assurance to have the ability to think myself to the ends of the universe. If I could I would forget most of what I know just so I can live in peace and comfort.

But it's not my choice, so here I sit in discomfort and fear, being hyper aware of the world around me and how it works.

I've had similar thoughts. "A Separate Reality" by Carlos Castaneda and meditation really have helped me to channel that intellectual energy in a positive direction, away from fear. I can't recommend checking that book out enough.

Literally everyone I know has the ability to think themselves into a state like you do.  How is it you think that's a sign of intelligence?

Maybe it's just a sign of fucked up thought process. Most people I know don't constantly undermine their own foundations all the time though. As far as I can see most people can quite happily go their entire life without really changing whatever intellectual foundation they are living on top of.

You seem to feel you have the ability to steer your thoughts which is good

Why choose to steer your mind in a direction that isn't helpful?

It makes sense. Standards are too high. But why lower standards for some ugly ho that most likely will just rip off a bunch of people for LSD? Sometimes you take a loss and don't get laid for awhile to maintain higher female standards so you don't end up with an ugly attention seeking bitch. But this way you don't lower your standards.

Wait am I getting this thread right? This is what we are talking about when referencing preference right? I hope I am on track in this thread.

Would you mind detailing what you mean by your "foundations"? Im assuming you mean your personal moral/ethical framework?

I struggle with this as well. I dont reckon its superior intellect. I think its others bullshitting and you choosing not to.

I reckon youre seeing a lot of the bullshit (notice I didnt say ALL the bullshit. I said a lot of it.) and I think youre bothered by it but youre adjacent to it ya know what i mean?

You dont have the energy or the care to handle the bullshit and package it back for them. I think that energy is a lot easier to have when you are bullshitting too.

(Yes I am the guy from the egotistical thread. No I do not care if you think this is proof I'm an asshole.)

Why is thinking through your foundations terrifying and isolating?

If your foundations start to crumble when you apply a little thought and logic, maybe you need to rethink your foundations? As uncomfortable as that may be.

Pessimism is the issue. For every negative thought, replace it with a positive thought.

A sign of a high IQ would be you would have long ago solved the problem of you're "thinking yourself into terrible places"  Dunning-Krueger at it's finest.

What you are actually experiencing what is known as rumination, likely along with some self harm ideation.  Try seeing a doctor and a therapist, you likely have either a mood disorder or an anxiety disorder.

This doesn't have to lead to a place of fear, though, it can lead to liberation?

I constantly pull everything apart, deconstruct everything, including myself. This is a continuous process as new knowledge allows greater analysis.

This hasn't lead me to fear, but to an appreciation of (seeming) self-awareness to appreciate the majesty of the universe. The state of the world, the bullshit going on? Transitory. All struggle, pain, pleasure, hope and loss will be lost on the greatest scale. On the greatest scale even time itself will unfold and die.

We have it in our hands to find our own meaning, and help those around us to lead a life of less suffering.

While it sucks to be intelligent and in despair, consider the alternative.

Nope, it's not intelligent and not in despair, it's the other one.

Mental health is not equal to IQ. You're not as smart as you think you are.

Internet advice is kind of like internet gaming, does any of it really matter or are you just trying to avoid boredom?
