The first time I ate a tamale I didn't know that you were supposed to take the corn husk off.

I once ate a raw habenero pepper at a restaurant in front of my family.. we had a bunch of family down for the weekend and I wanted to act tough and cool. I was around 10 years old.
That shit burned for a couple hours. The entire night I cried while everyone laughed at me...

tripping 'up' the stairs in Penn Station with at least 500 people watching, not just a foot sliding off of a step, but a real struggle to stay upright with multiple slips and 'whoa' moments, that felt dumb as hell at the time
i think we are designed to forget most of the times we felt dumb lol

I once pronounced a sandwich called "the italiano" (pronounced-italee-ah-no) as "the italian-oh" ... I was high, and very self-conscious about it for the rest of the day.

I kinda did the same thing.. I was taking a chick to see pirates of the Caribbean.. I wanted to sound/look cool so I said..
I need two tickets for the Ca-rib-eons.
The guy looked at me like I was retarded and the chick had to correct me and then laughed at me.

lol, i did this as a young kid but it was with a steamed artichoke when my family had guests over for dinner outside for BBQ. i just dipped the leaf in the garlic sauce then chewed on it, spat it out, and declared it disgusting. mom had me try another just to make sure i REALLY didn't like it, she and her friend saw what i was doing, and busted out laughing before showing me you were supposed to just scrape the outer fleshy part of the leaf off with your teeth, not eat the fibery bitter part of it too, lol.
once i figured out how to do that, i declared it delicious and proceeded to eat the whole thing, after learning the evil dangers known as "prickleys" that guard the precious heart of the artichoke, and how to wield a spoon to scrape them off.

When I first got back into weed I went off on a ride to find somewhere quiet to smoke, then found I was 5 miles from home and tripping absolute balls. Luckily it was the middle of summer so I was able to find somewhere to lie down for a couple of hours, but I felt like a complete idiot for a while there.

when I was 6 I went to the water fountain. I thought my friend Luke was behind me. My plan to turn around really fast and spit the water from the fountain in his face. it was going to be hilarious. So there I am drinking my water. I spin around really really fast, pucker my lips in preparation to blast, but the person behind me isn't luke, it's lillian- and she was standing really close to me. so now I am standing face to face with a girl with my lips puckered. all the other six years looking- and lillian- think I am trying to basically force a quick kiss. I was so mortified that to this day I remember the entire scene vividly.

Unfortunately some of us are wired to relive them all seemingly forever. An exaggeration that it's all of them, but with some varieties of social anxiety, even memories that logically should be only mildly embarrassing can still haunt you years later. On top of memories where you objectively did fuck up big time in some situation.

I actually did the opposite. At a large family get together a cousin across the room was looking at me and waving. I'd never really been close to him and assumed there was someone behind me he was waving at. There wasn't. I completely snubbed him, he hasn't talked to me since.
In high school I had this rash on my face for a couple weeks. Every morning on I'd put the cream stuff on it on my drive to school. One day I applied the cream and went to rub in it but something must've happened that distracted me. I got to school and was walking through the halls, it was like you see in the movies where everyone turns and looks at you smiling and whispering to the people around them. I get to the bathroom, look in the mirror and I have a giant glob of cream on my face

Any time I have to talk to anybody I’m always asking myself if I’m acting like a normal person would. Which always leads to me laughing nervously and making weird noises when I drop the money the cashier is trying to hand me or doing that sidestep thing where two people are trying to avoid running into each other in an aisle. Just super awkward and hard to talk to in general so anytime I have to interact with someone besides my dog I’ll usually walk away feeling like a brainlet

as a cashier, i can assure you - there is no such thing as a normal person. ya'll are weird as shit. the human capacity for quirkiness knows no limits, and your local cashier is no exception. don't bother trying to act like a normal person, because normal is just a composite average of every quirky person there is out there.
"just be yourself" isn't exactly sage advice, because obviously you don't want to be yourself if said being yourself is acting like a dick, but follow the golden rule of treating others with respect and how you'd like to be treated yourself. that means don't make others EARN your respect - respect is something given freely and lost afterward for good reasons, not something someone has to jump through hoops just to obtain from you. if they have to EARN your respect, chances are extremely high you're not someone who's respect isn't worth a damn. chances are :gasp: you're an asshole, or worse, a karen. fortunately, such things are changeable, but it does require a lot of re accessing how you perceive others and your own self-importance. and no, being an asshole is not made up for by some other virtue, like tithing at church or being a scientist.
but simple social awkwardness is perfectly forgivable, as plenty of people have that fear. it's something that's been ingrained in society, the urge to fit in, to be popular, to be part of the "in" crowd. ignore all that. just treat others with kindness and respect, be your cheerful self, chat about your interests and get others to chat about theirs, and if you make a mistake or two...knowledge it, laugh at yourself perhaps if it's not a big deal, and move on, because everyone makes mistakes. people will respect you the more for it. some will even share similar stories of the mistakes they made... kind of like what we're doing now.

Speak for yourself.. I'm not weird. I might talk to myself all the time.. I may be overly paranoid for no apparent reason... I even sometimes think that I am the only conscience mind and everyone and everything here is set in place just so god can experience all lives at one point in time. Or this could be hell and this is the 1000000 life I've "lived" just so I can suffer and EVERYONE here knows. Not shroomery EVERYONE. EVERYONE EVERYONE.
I possibly even create entire lives for people I saw in public for a split second.
So yeah, speak for yourself.
