do you know how many milligrams of THC you are inhaling in a toke? my average is about 7mg and I guess I absorb half of that. if I do that 3 times or less per day my lungs seem fine.

I have above average lung capacity as it were, and I swear smoking cannabis from a bong only improves said lung capacity. I'm never, ever winded, lift heavy weights, full body, as well as cardio, 6 days a week...
I've been a daily toker for about 10 years now and I honestly don't feel like my lungs have been impacted much at all by cannabis (in capacity and function).
I often smoke before going on a long bike ride and smoke a lot while backpacking in high elevation, and I can still breathe fine and take big deep lung fulls of air.
And in general I don't have any issues with my lungs or breathing.
No doubt smoke isn't healthy for the lungs but I feel like cannabis-smoke isn't all that detrimental, and I honestly feel that cannabis-vapor offers some benefits to the lungs and their overall function. Cannabis/THC/various cannabinoinds are actually known to be a bronchial-dilator, opens up the bronchial tubes and helps the lungs purge out all sorts of crap (dust, phlegm, tars, etc etc).
My sisters BF is a daily tobacco smoker like I'm a daily cannabis smoker and his lungs (capacity and function) sound fucking terrible and he's constantly hacking and coughing. Sometimes it sounds like he's literally straight up choking on his own lungs and all the tar that's obviously built up in them. When he is just sitting and breathing, not even doing anything physically active, it sounds like he is breathing through a tiny straw. I can hear how restricted his breathe is even when he's at a rest.
The only time I feel like my lungs are impacted by cannabis is if I take a dab that's either too hot and/or too large. In that case I do feel like my lungs/bronchial tubes have "closed up" a bit for a short while (maybe 5 to 10 minutes)...Or in general taking a toke of herb or hash that's too hot and/or too large will do it.
But just casually smoking like I usually do...I can breathe totally fine after taking multiple bong rips, and sometimes feel like my lungs have opened up even more so.
In regards to the OP....There are so many reasons I enjoy the herb in many different aspects, but I'll keep myself from going into a long ramble about them all.
One reason though...It really helps me to settle & wind down after a long day of work. After a long day of running around non-stop and needing my mind to be "lit up" and on point all day, after many hours of driving, at the end of the day I'm tired & worn out but my mind is still very stimulated and it's hard to "turn off" and relax and go to sleep or even eat/have an appetite.
Cannabis at the end of the day is wonderful...Slows my mind down, helps me to stop thinking about things that stressed me out during the day and going in loops, relaxes my body, soothes any aches & pains, helps with sleep.
I can't imagine working a long busy day and not having something to help relax and slow one down at the end of the day...I'm not a big fan of alcohol and alc doesn't really do it for me anyway.
I might come back into this thread at another time for a long ramble about why I enjoy and love this plant/herb as much as I do lol.

Fantastic post!
This has been my personal experience as well. All of my weight lifting PRs, I've broken, while stoned out of my mind. Stoned for me is FOCUS, it's not lethargic checking out. My brain is backwards, like McKenna said; medicated to normalcy lol.
