Underground rave scene - What music do you like? 1

This is in the USA.
Who’s all involved in the underground scene? A friend I grew up with introduced me to a group of DJs who’s throw some really cool shows, some were at people’s barns/hotels/country homes/rented out property/etc. This is where I was introduced to LSD/MDMA and even if it gets hate, nitrous tanks.
The majority of the music is Hard Techno, Acid/Bass House, Breakbeats, different forms of DNB, Bass music in general, etc.. I sometimes wonder how prevalent the underground scene is in the USA. I know it’squite common in Europe.
Who likes to dance on LSD? Sometimes it doesn’t hit right and I’m not in the mood to dance, so I’ll just laugh with whomever I’m talking with. I really appreciate that my friend introduced me to the scene as I really enjoy it and it opened my eyes to different forms of music and not all of that is electronic styles. Just look at music in general differently.

Not the "underground" scene, but Infected mushroom concerts here are pretty wild and usually in a smaller/more intimate venue.

I grew up on the Rave scene in London, starting in the Jungle era, and watching the birth of Drum & Bass, and its evolution over the years to what it is today.
Being there for the birth of a musical genre and watching it grow has secured it forever a special place in my heart; it's like my childhood sweetheart who I've been with as we've both grown and matured.
The scene has died out a lot in London these days, with most of the influential clubs gone and a loss of proper rave etiquette amongst the youngsters coming into it. Last few raves I went to were pretty disappointing in that regard. Still, I'm 36 now, and I hit my first rave at 15, so maybe I'm just a little past it.
There's still a great rave scene in Berlin - best in the world, at this point - from personal and anecdotal experience. The scene as it exists here in the states - again from personal and anecdotal experience - is really quite far removed from the subtleties that made the scene great IMO, instead often tending towards the American way of 'bigger is better'. EDM here seems to try to hark back to the origins and somehow gets it quite wrong. Hey ho, at least it's there!!
And as for LSD; not a great dancefloor drug IMO. Most of my time raving was on MDMA, which is the perfect dancefloor drug IMO, with the exception of festivals when it's really a case of anything goes.
Some of my favorite producers are Netsky, Maduk, Chase & Status, Etherwood, High Contrast, Wilkinson, Spectrasoul, Rudimental, Logistics & Dexcell.
How about yours?

There's a great underground psytrance scene here, not a single event that hasn't been shut down since covid started though. Previously cops couldn't enter private property without permission from the owner... now crowd size limits have given them power to shut it down. They promised to start confiscating audio gear if we kept trying to have parties.
Next year, is gonna be a much better year.

Ya that’s interesting, have always been interested in the scene in Europe. I’m happy my “initiation” into the scene was into small more intimate shows... like an average show may have 50-80 people tops. Biggest one was like 150 people, definitely a different vibe than the average show you see on TV or whatever,
I personally don’t have many favorite artists as the mixes I listen to are made by the people who throw the shows. I’m happy you added some names so I can check them out. One European group came out and played, theyre called Stanton Warriors.
That’s one song by them that I liked. I do enjoy MDMA very very much, dance for hours on it... it’s the one substance that I’m super careful with though because I feel like it’s really bad to do it too much, maby 3-4 times a year tops.
Are you into acid techno or like liquid DNB at all? I’ve been into them lately. The acid genera definitely isn’t big where I live, mainly just EDM like you said but my friends definitely enjoy it.

Yea psytrance isn’t big where I live but there’s definitely some “bigger” events around, nothing lately that I know of though. I enjoy some psytrance, haven’t gotten too into it though. I know it’s not the same but I really like Tipper. His forward escape album specifically. My first solo DMT experience where I actually went pretty far was while listening to that album.
Ya the police are probably pretty bad again, I was at a show 3 months ago at a farm type place semi deep in the country when the cops came bc of the bass. They weren’t allowed in, I was tripping and spotted lights at the gate while I had a backpack with LSD/Mushrooms and gas in it. Had to casually hide it..
What other music do you like man? Anything at all.

The witch house scene was pretty cool a few years ago in San Francisco. Saw some pretty cool shows at bars and small venues. Oakland was good for warehouse shows and more underground kind of stuff. I dig bar shows more as I'm not a dancer and don't care for crowds. Just like getting high and enjoying a show.
This band has been around for a while and is always a joy to see. I think they toured with NIN a couple years ago and they did the theme song for a TV show so I'm not sure how underground they are now but worth listening to all the same.

I listened the hell out of forward escape when tripping for a while, great album. I'm into a lot of music and have spent time in most different dance scenes, house, dnb, techno, rave, whatever I could latch onto. Spent a lot of years producing and DJing as well. Good times. Listen to a lot of tech house at home when tripping these days. Otherwise I listen to blues and rock, jazz, whatever. Just as long as it is good real music. Modern fabricated popular artists are so piss poor, I find that most of the stuff I listen to is 60s-90s artists. Didn't matter back then if you were fugly, only if your music was good. Whereas these days it's generally the opposite. Cookie cutter sound that has no soul and is massively overproduced, corporate products.
On the other topic you mentioned... at my local psy parties just about everyone is on LSD, and many have it stacked with MDMA and mushrooms as well. Very trippy parties. Everyone stomping around like maniacs. The music will play 24 hours a day thumping for usually 2-3 days. Small intimate parties, 2-3 hundred people. Very cool experiences.

hey there, i'm from austria and we have a nice little acid tekno / free party scene here, inspired by the infamous spiral tribe soundsystem that roamed the UK and later europe (most notably france, austria, czech, italy, poland, hungary, slowakia and, to a lesser degree, germany) in the 90s. it is also called the free tekno scene known for fast BPMs (150-200), psychedelic hypnotic driving hardcore techno beats mixed with mind boggling samples and vocal chips played on a fat soundsystem (inspired by jamaican soundsystem culture) on clandestine DIY parties.
while many subgenres have emerged from this blend, one that is currently dominant in the scene is acidcore, which emerged from the mental tekno sound of the netherlands (acid anonymous soundsystem (which itself was inspired by tracks from curley/esoteric who died in 1998, RIP)). in the last decade, the 90s analog acid sound (TB-303) got rediscovered and resurrected by the european tekno scene and blended with the earlier tekno styles that dominated free parties of the late 90s and the early 00s (hardtek, tribe, mental, frenchcore).
these 3 guys are my favourites in the domestic scene:
https://soundcloud.com/freetaxler (he offers everything for free download) https://soundcloud.com/van-der-wiese
https://soundcloud.com/knisda_kanisda (more playful analog electro/tekno mashup)
great guy from belgium, he helped invent the acidcore subgenre https://soundcloud.com/mrgasmask/
2 more early mixes:
1994 acid techno trance dj set
2001 tribe liveact from cz
in addition to that, we also have a huge dnb scene, a fair share of underground techno and a long and well established goa/psytrance scene, but, for me at least, the acid tekno scene is the most noteworthy... (drx of choice: 'cid, md.., amp. & K)
turn on, tune in, drop bass

not so much, it seems that most people follow the rules here .. i heard about a smaller private one being busted recently, and 2 illegal outdoor parties happened in summer without further notice...
before the crisis already, doing (semi)legal parties or using certain legal gaps like registering the party as a demonstration (turn the music a little lower and party until noon the next day) was the way to go... just too much of a hassle conflicting with the law more than necessary ^^
