Can this Sclerotia be Salvaged..??
    #27083011 - 12/10/20 08:55 PM (3 years, 1 month ago)

Beginner here.

First attempt at growing sclerotia, with only a few succesful pf tek cultivations in the past. Used an RGS method for these.

I used SFDs for lids and in the first of four batches I had not properly researched and ended up using only the SFDs with tape (no metal lids). Corrected this error in the other batches, which are doing great. Now, after three months, most of this first batch has some mold on the top layer of severely dried out substrate. And mycelium growth stalled awhile ago. I'm wondering if i can immediately harvest these jars and salvage the small bits of sclerotia that have formed further down in the substrate. It doesn't look as though the mold has crept down past the top dried layer.

Here are some pictures. Thanks to anyone that replies.

Not safe in my opinion. First because the moment you open that jar there's going to be a huge amount of spores going everywhere, second because you really can't tell how far the contaminant reached because the non-sporulating part is just white mycelium around your grains. For the amount of stuff you're trying to harvest I'd just say it's not worth the risk.
