First time grower - out of town for 7 days
    #27082467 - 12/10/20 03:36 PM (3 years, 1 month ago)

Hi There, I'd like to introduce myself.  My name is Phil and I am a first-time grower.  I have been spawning these mushroom spores in substrate for about 8 days (previously colonized in a spawn bag for 30 days).  The surface is now mostly white.  Hopefully the pics below come through ok.

I am leaving in about a week and will be out of town for 7 days and will return about 14 days from now.  Should I keep it in spawn mode for the next 14 days and start the fruiting stage when I get back?  Or should I start fruiting it for the next 7 days and then leave an air gap on the lid or remove the polyfill from one of the holes in the bin while I'm out of town for 7 days?  Unfortunately, I don't have anyone to mist and fan for me while I'm out of town.    I am new to this so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

If you leave it as it is it will still pin just not as well as it would if you put in in fruiting conditions soon and a little later. Fuck you will leave just as its pinning if all has gone well. Is there no one who can come and tend to it? Or at least trim it for you? At worst you come back to a big spore covered mess.

You could leave it as is, and put it somewhere cooler mid to high 60’s? To slow it down. But it seems a shame as you have got this far and it looks good.

Thanks Dr. Sparkle.  I live in a warm climate region.. weather is typically 85-70 degrees this time of year.  I don't have air conditioning so will probably leave an oscillating fan on and let it continue to stay in spawn mode with the lid on for the next 14 days until I get back.

If you have any other suggestions I'm all ears

Def reduce air and cool as the others said but honestly while spores are messy ita not that bad, after the spawn run the tub will contam (which I find much worse) and need to be cleaned anyway. Maybe sucks for the polyfill, I only use unmodified monotubs. And Ive had some huuge like 20cm mushrooms grow this way so you might come back to incredibly fat yields so really I think not that much to worry about.

I had to leave for 4 days once while fruiting. I came back and they had all dropped spores but had a great harvest.

Do not put it in the fridge lol.

They'll grow when they want to, nothing to be done about it.

I've had crazy fast runs from a good culture, my TPB that I've had a while just threw pins in a shoebox after 9 days, should be harvesting in less than a week from today. I've also had some slower ones, over 3 weeks from spawn to harvest.

Don't worry about misting a fanning. Since you're new I'm going to assume your set up isn't completely dialed in, so I'd suggest leaving everything as is while you're away in case it gets too dry. Ideally you want to dial in your set up to be set and forget, with no need to change anything from spawn to fruiting. It's doing well in the current conditions so no need to change anything when you leave.

This is MS, yeah? It shouldn't be especially vigorous since you haven't done any isolating on agar.

Worst case you come back to some slightly overgrown mushrooms but they'll be perfectly fine. Best case you come home to some nearly perfect mushrooms. Realistically it'll be somewhere between.

It's probably fine. Even if it's not fine, it'll eventually be fine. So it's fine.
