Pictures of the grains tell a better story.
Lets see them. Tell us your grain and grain prep.

I haven’t gotten that far yet, all I’ve done so far is prep the lids. I suppose I won’t truly know if they are okay until after the fact haha. Just wanted to see if at this point they looked okay.
Still waiting on spores in the mail, figured in the meantime I would go ahead and prepare the lids. Glad I did, took a considerable amount of time.

I plan to do MS to WBS. I know it’s not recommend bc syringes can be contaminated themselves, however I am willing to take the risk. Nonetheless, I made these which I’m hoping will suffice. Next after I receive the spores, I will prep the grain by soaking, simmering, and sterilizing. Then, inoculating in a SAB. I’ve read some people saying it’s better with spores to grain to just use 3-4 drops of solution rather than a whole CC, would this be better?
Then I plan to use 6QT Shoeboxes and coco coir. For sub/spawn mix. Still working out the ratios on that. I’m using pint jars, because surprisingly every store near me was sold out of quart jars. So I’m thinking the ratios will be something like 2 pints of spawn per shoebox. Should I double the substrate or keep it to a 1:1?
I appreciate the responses, I have been doing a lot of research constantly but sometimes when absorbing so much information from a lot of different sources stuff gets confusing. But, again seriously, thank you.
I’ve done PF Tek a couple times in the past with a 100% success rate so I wanted to try grain and see if I can do it too.

Sounds like a pretty practical plan. I have done spores in grain in the past and it sounds like you know what to expect. I will say I had better success when doing so with popcorn than WBS,and when the kernels\seeds were just slightly split (with either grain). It sorta gives the spores and in to take hold. and yes it's better to use as little of the mss as needed. I actually got away with 1:3 spawn to sub in shoeboxes. That is not to say that is the way to go, it was just kinda how things worked out and they didn't seem to suffer from it.

You will thank you if you order 20 plates of agar and take that shit to agar.
No less spores is not better then more unless the syringe is fucked then it doesn't matter. would you rather start a fire with a match (drop) or a blowtorch (1cc)?
The reason the pf tek worked is you spore maker was fucking amazing. Their sterile technique making the prints attributed your 100% success Like obama said. You didn;t build that.
Ima say it again agar.

The fact that you have made a dozen jar lids shows that you're wanting to get more from this hobby than an occasional lucky flush. The quicker you go to agar, the quicker you'll find the success you're seeking. It feels like you have heard the risks, but nothing is more frustrating than wasting a month of time and not getting any results...then having to start over and hoping it works the next time.
I use 1qt oats to 2 qts of coco/1-2 cups verm in my 6qt tubs. Save .5qt of coco for the pseudocasing.
The lids can potentially work...depends on how tight the polyfill is as well as how the silicon glob holds up. You could always do a round of test jars with some sterile water to see how they respond after a week or two.

The others are right, agar is the way to go but it sounds like you already know spore to grain is a bad idea so I'm not gonna try to talk you out of it. I say do both. Buy some agar and make some plates while the grain works. You will learn a lot from both experiences.

They look good to me, only thing I could say is the poly fill could maybe be more tight, but I wouldn’t mess with them till after your first batch if shit goes south.
There’s a few things to consider for your ratios. People here usually go for a 1:1-1:4 spawn to substrate ratio. Lower ratios (1/4) help save on spawn cost and increase the amount of water in the mix, theoretically increasing the mass from your first flush. Higher ratios (1:1) mean quicker spawn time, but potentially smaller fruits. Since you’re going MS -> spawn you should stick to a higher ratio.
Also, when spawned, the spawn/substrate mix should reach about 3 inches in depth. Supposedly this helps the mushrooms grow to their full size. For those 6qt shoeboxes I think that’s about 3qts.
MS -> spawn is bad for consistency, but it’s far from impossible.
-------------------- Clone -> agar -> UnBODified monotub (first attempt, left unattended a week before harvesting)
Thanks BOD 🙏
