Leaving jars to incubate?
    #2707894 - 05/20/04 08:42 PM (14 years, 1 month ago)

Would it be alright to leave jars incubating (well, at whatever the room temp is, can be 70-90 :smirk:, in dark, no air, I don't have a real "incubator") for about 2 months?

I am going away for the summer, but it would be nice to be able to get right back into things when I get return.
I'd innoculate a week or so before I leave, so I can see that they germinate without any obvious contams right off the bat.

I would dunk before birthing, duh... but what substrate do you suggest? The only grow I have done I just used PF tek. Just wondering, can you break up BRF to get it out of a jar if you are casing anyways or is there some problem? I don't really know, but I always see people using WBS or popcorn for larger jars with edges on the tops.
Also, since I will have so long would pint jars fully colonize if I used those? Or how about quarts?

thanks

maybe if you keep them rather cool, at around 70 or so, it might slow the growth enough. also, it's been (proven) that leaving the innoc. holes uncovered will speed up growth. try keeping them totally shut off from light, fresh air and warmth.

idea:: instead of innoculating them on four sides, just punch 1 hole in the middle and squirt a tiny bit of solution into it. it will take the jars longer to colonize from the inside out.
